As a past server Owner, we need donations to continue running the servers that players love. It all depends on what type of server you are on tbh. Pay2win can be bypassed if you dedicate yourself. Sure if you donate you get some perks but hell. It is possible to have fun without donating. The experience wont be ruined.[DOUBLEPOST=1433943101,1433943030][/DOUBLEPOST]Someone should make an Alpha survival server with no donating. I would play that all day.

you could make it yourself if you are an experienced past server owner, i am sure there are plenty of nostalgic 16 year olds who long for the days when they were 12

I've seen a few, but they had very little players who wouldn't get into a conversation with me about anything. I also don't have the time to run servers anymore.[DOUBLEPOST=1433943354,1433943288][/DOUBLEPOST]There should be one day where Mojang rewinds the clock back to the Alpha days and see how the community reacts. I have a feeling it would be very enjoyable to read people's opinions

as someone who comes from a heavy mmo background, i can say this kind of elitist mentality crops up in almost every large game community. people in WoW all talk about how the golden days of that game were vanilla, or burning crusade, but people forget how there were tons of bad things about the game back then, tons of things weren't optimized or were broken, lots of glitches, lots of things people take for granted today that weren't there then.

honestly all mojang had an obligation to do in this case was release the game in a state slightly better than it was in alpha and then abandon it. the fact that they still release large content updates for the game is, frankly, unheard of elsewhere in the industry when it comes to this sort of game. mojang doesn't make money off of microtransactions or subscriptions like other games that release consistent content updates do, so they really have little reason financially to continue doing it.

though i do understand that logistically speaking the costs of development for this game are probably very small, and the amount of sales that come from releasing consistent content updates and keeping a large fanbase in place compensate for this.

if you want my advice you should all just respect mojang as a developer, even if they have sold out a little, and appreciate that at least they didn't sell out to EA, because if they did your game would be dead by now.

I have a higher respect for Notch than Mojang itself. I mean the guy created the game all by himself. As for Mojang and their major updates. There updates are taking up to a year to release and they usually contain things that don't really change the game-play at all. Like the new 1.8 blocks. We waited a year just for that? Now there were some things in 1.8 that really helped but overall updates now have been for security issues. I remember when Mojang had their secret Friday updates. Those brought great meaning to the game and were done in under a week. Technically Mojang did sellout to Microsoft but they have not edited the game at all so most accept this change. Now on Xbox/Playstation Minecraft is run off microtransactions.[DOUBLEPOST=1433944396,1433944361][/DOUBLEPOST]

please don't call montyburly's opinion dumb that is really disrespectful

The Xbox/PlayStation versions having microtransactions makes sense because people that play with consoles are silly and are easy to take advantage of to make money so I don't really see why anyone wouldn't do that. Mojang is a business, like every other business, and they are out to make money. there is not a single business in this entire world that is not out to make money.

if i had to guess, i would say that because of how complicated and layered in code the modern game is, and how everything is built off of a platform that most people agree is terrible for video game development, and how the game is 4+ years old now and there can't be records of *every* little piece of code involved in the game's operation, it makes sense that it takes a far longer time for them to change or alter anything. the fact that the lead developer and original founder of the game (who set everything up, structured everything, knows where everything was/is) is no longer with the company also would be a contributing factor to this.

regardless, they have no obligation to give you anything anymore so you should be grateful for what you are getting. complaining about how long it takes for them to give you free content updates just makes you seem petulant.

Calling his opinion is disrespectful? He basically called everyone who disagrees with his opinion dumb.

Sorry I honestly didn't know. Calling me a Male pig for not knowing is wrong however. Just makes you look like a sexist asshole taking advantage of a situation.

I don't think Mojang is that bad, but yeah Minecraft is now overrun with annoying little kids who donate lots of their parents' money to servers and scream "Hacks" everytime they're killed. But it's a block game after all, what do you expect?

Especially when I'm a sloth. You know that's racist against my religion called Slothyanity. My Lord and Savior Slotha will have you executed for things like that.
