I want to start this thread off by saying somebody was scammed $350 in my name because they left their skype in their bio. It sucks, and I want MCM to make a pinned thread or something urging users to never deal over Skype.

A pinned thread saying don't deal over skype would stop (the majority of) these impersonation scams. And I know some of you are probably saying "oh well it's their fault for falling for it" doesn't change the fact it'll stop people from being scammed, hell if it stops even ONE person from being scammed I see it worthwhile. I've attached two images, showing the scammer, and the paid money.

I don't think it would hurt taking one more measure to prevent people from being scammed.

Also if you disagree please don't just leave a rating, tell me how this idea can be improved or changed. Thanks.

Ehm, no.

Almost all of the suggestion I currently see is because people are not using their brains. I've done a lot of deals through skype. It's easy to operate and a lot of people use it. If you do not verify with who you are working then it's your mistake for getting scammed. A better title for this suggestion is "Urge people to verify the person you deal with" because maybe your experience sucks doesn't mean it's bad. People seriously need to stop being so stereotypical on McM.

Your brains are there for a reason, use them.

Yeah, that works too for a solution, but throughout 90% of what you typed all you said was just because people are stupid, you should let them get scammed. That works too for a solution like I said, but saying just because people are stupid they should get scammed is just terrible.

That's seems to be what a lot of you people are saying, not sure why I even fucking tried, no one has morals.

"However, if you're an idiot about it, and/or do notconfirm who you're dealing with, you're gonna get scammed"

"If dumbasses use skype and get scammed that's their fault."

"its the buyers fault if he really cares about his money"

"Someone who is smart would contact the person directly through the forums to get their official Skype. Unless you're a careless person"

Why do I bother.

I'd say people should start putting it in their threads when selling something. Also, I can 100% agree that MCM should make a pinned comment about the topic, as I've been scammed when I was new.
I think they should simply make the Wiki more noticeable and important, it's got so many guides that are really useful for new members.[DOUBLEPOST=1503066946][/DOUBLEPOST]

The simple fact of the matter is that, while it sucks for people to get scammed, it is vitally important for them to realize how to not get scammed.
This suggestion comes with a lot of rather annoying consequences for a large amount of legitimate people, and it fixes little.
The number of scams coming from impersonators compared to the number of scams coming from rando new members is tiny. There's maybe 1 or 2 cases like that in scam reports at any one time.
The solution proposed here is absolutely disproportional to the results it will have, like trying to pop a pimple using scissors.

Your post is somewhat insulting but since you can apply the same situation on yourself I won't bother with it. Just, I never said dumb people should get scammed. Not sure where you got that from.
Alright so your solution is: To avoid scamming, take away trades/deals just pay for nothing and do nothing. That's basically what you are trying to do. It will eventually come down to that after you removed skype, discord even pms.
But ye, dumb people get scammed. I got scammed? Should've known, didn't follow my own rules and was dumb > got scammed. A great solution is get smart. That 3 minute effort is not worth it when you're dealing with 5, 10, 25, 100, 500 usd?

You're trying to takeaway the front entrance from a casino to reduce money-loss. It's a small fix but creates a lot of resistance. Some people know what they are doing, some do not waste all their money, some people are not addicted, some people just enjoy it. You might remove some money-loss because one guy doesn't think it's worth the effort to go to the back entrance but a fellow with a urge to scam will take that effort. Then you simply just annoyed a lot of people.

I hope this points out that it's not a good solution.

I've made atleast $700 in purchases here only using the MCM PM system, not sure why you're acting like nobody will ever purchase anything ever again. I'm locking this thread anyways, it won't be accepted.

And when the hell did I say to remove pm system?

And again, that wasn't my solution to not let users buy anything. I'm done arguing, your comparisons are nowhere close to what I'm trying to do.

If you take away skype, discord will be next.. What then? Pms probably. That's what I meant. You are removing in your eyes the main gateway for scammers, while other disagree and that makes them mad. That's the whole casino comparison. But I feel like you are acting like a huge victim of a casual discussion/critique. You're also offensive/aggressive. Why?

I both agree and disagree. Impersonations are a terrible thing, but that isn't limited to 1 platform. Specifically targeting Skype would be quite the pointless crusade. Instead, I suggest requiring users Skype names as well Discord names to be put in the information section as to confirm a users identity.

Since the time this thread was created Skype has pretty much died, but the same thing goes with Discord. We shouldn't tell people not to use these other platforms for messaging since realistically it's so much more convenient than to use MCM PMs. I think that ensuring everyone uses a middleman wherever possible and verifies through MCM that they own the discord account is more important than telling people not to use these services entirely.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
