I'm trying to make the most badass web template on here, so I need to know.
What do YOU want in a web template?

Be as specific and outlandish as possible.

Thanks,
Joel.

When designing a new product or service, I think it's vital to consider your target audience. In this case, templates are targeted at people who are looking for professional sites, but are unable to afford to pay a design agency for a full blown custom website. So I would focus on making the site as professional and clean as possible, something that looks like it came from a design agency. The audience doesn't necessarily want their consumers to know that they're using a template site either, so consider adding different coloring or formatting options to help add variety.

Furthermore, on that note, make sure you create a product that stands out from other templates. This will not only attract clients, but it will also demonstrate your creativity and ability. Make sure that the UX/UI design is well thought out and well executed, as people want a template that works out of the box without tweaks to the layout or design. Personally, I would avoid large animations as they tend to lag on older browsers and don't really look too good in my opinion.

Just always visualize your intended audience as you design the site, will the users of the site be tech savvy enough to navigate, does the site flow well, etc. are all important questions to ask as you design a template like this. You also want to appeal to a wide audience when constructing a template, as it could potentially be used to represent many different brands.

Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing the results,
John

An awesome web template is one that can easily be customized, preferably GUI based somewhere for the owner of the site to easily click a button and change the color of the site, or the content, etc.
A template is not a drag and drop interface, or something where you can change the settings with buttons.

Once you download the code for the template, you normally change it to your liking, editing the design making it look less like a template.
