Hey,

So earlier today i was in a debate with a few members on whether free healthcare is a good thing.
Taking the NHS for example while severely underfunded it works. But I'm interested to see others opinions on this topic.
Some could say free healthcare = higher taxes, or some could argue free healthcare = less innovation.

I'm interested in all your opinions as a real interesting topic.

Have a great day

P.S

Respect others opinions, even if they seem so unfound and crazy, respect and try to see there point of view.

For me it's insane that some developed countries don't have this... You should not have to be rich to survive.

(From the eyes of someone in a country with free healthcare.)

Totally agree, healthcare in some countries are just at this point bussiness. I don't live in the USA, I'm british but I see how expensive it is over the pond.

I'm from the UK. The National Health Service is hands down the most amazing thing about this country. Yes, it has its flaws, but you cannot argue with what is being offered, and cannot help but admire the incredible work that everybody does, especially during these troubled times.

The idea of not going to see the doctor, not going to the hospital or not ringing an ambulance because the illness / injury / condition might not be serious enough to warrant 'putting you into debt' or not be 'worth the cost' is an incredibly scary thought.

In Iceland, It's mostly free but you can contribute/pay for it yourself but there is a limit to how much a person can pay, Seems to work fine here.

There's a saying that you can be killed by your debt.
Sometimes, I know people in the states who'd rather not get the help and suffer than get the help as it's so darn expensive.
As you mentioned, the NHS is the best thing about the UK, and I'm sure many people would be happy to spend more on it.

ngl I see free healthcare as a right, instead of a business, and I heard Americans PAY for ambulances? Is that true?[DOUBLEPOST=1610325553][/DOUBLEPOST]

Here In Canada, basic healthcare like, diagnoses is free (provided you have a health card). While pharmaceuticals are paid, cheap, but Paid

That's a cool system, I wouldn't mind if the UK implemented something like that where you can optionally donate to the NHS.

Mhm, in America ambulances could cost you 2500$ just to get you to the hospital.
In the UK, all healthcare is covered by the NHS, meaning If I fall ill it's free by default. I don't need to pay for anything. Which is great.
Does Canada cover all healthcare, or is it only a few things?

I love the NHS, it's honestly one of the best things about the UK.

However, the waiting times (especially during Winter) are insane. I've been trying to book an appointment since September, finally got one in December, for February. I'm appreciative that they're hella underfunded and deserve way more than they get, especially with COVID.

It has its benefits and its downsides, but in all I think it's great.

Sometimes its even more than 10k search it on google I've seen bills over 100k for gunshot wounds

now thats what i call price gouging. when your ill or in pain - you can't say no there's only yes.

I agree with you entirely, but in my experience - I've been able to get appointments within the week - but obviously if its urgent you'd go to A&E.
Must be luck or that your area is suffering severly.

Yeah I live near Nottingham, I'm going to see a specialist after a referral from my GP. GPs aren't long, within a few days, but Hospitals are overloaded at the moment.

Looking at the U.S. I find it ridiculous that the U.S. doesn't have free healthcare. Here in The Netherlands, I think free healthcare is the absolute best thing in the whole country and every country should have free healthcare. In The Netherlands, the ambulance, police, or fire department has to arrive within fifteen minutes. And furthermore, the government strives to have a hospital fifteen minutes away at max.

So answering your question: Yes, healthcare is a right that everyone should have.

Its crazy that they don't have free healthcare, one could even argue that this violates on someone's simple human rights. The fact that a government wouldn't want to provide healthcare for their citizens and for the fact that the current administration in the US cough cough trump cough cough was trying to repeal the Obamacare act is absolutely disgusting. Healthcare shouldn't be for the riches and should be something equal for everyone.

I can't agree more with that! It is ridiculous and I really hope this will be fixed. Through the years I've began to realize more and more that the U.S. really is a 'third world country wearing a Gucci belt'.. Very very disappointing.
