Hey there,
This is for desktop/laptop, not mobile.
I'm doing a poll at my school for stats and I want to compare it to an online community.

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

In my opinion Firefox is simply better all around, at least compared to Chrome, Opera, and Edge/Explorer. I'll give Tor credit, though I am just not a fan of the simplicity.

I use firefox for my laptop because it's great for general use. I prefer brave on my PC since I like the speed and simplicity. I also have Tor on my PC.

Fun fact, you can actually use Tor on Brave too :D

That's true, though if you're going to go that far you should use the browser itself. It's not actually tor. It uses Tor branding and the ideas it gives. So it reroutes ip's and stuff but it doesn't go the full mile like the Browser itself does. I could link some sources for this if you'd like.

Brave team:
"
We aren't competing with Tor, we are using Tor as a feature. Brave with Tor does not provide the same level of Privacy as the Tor browser, if your life depends on remaining anonymous, use the Tor browser. If you just want to hide your browsing from ISP, work or school, then tor private tabs are for you. We are just making it super convenient for users to switch between regular browsing and Tor browsing.

I would encourage the use of both!"

I would read https://tools.privacymachine.info/browsers.html to understand why Tor isn't a good main browser.

firefox with privacytools.io hardening and tor browser sometimes is what i use. used to use ungoogled-chromium but i needed sync features because i own multiple devices i wanna keep my settings synced on.

ive noticed ff is considerably slower than chromium on my mac, uses lots of ram, i miss ungoogled-chromium!

Privacytools recommends good extensions but there are some other extensions you should get to add to that. You also mention the slowness, you need to consider some of the extensions do slow your browser. I personally have a speed school browser and an online use FF browser.

You can still use plain chromium, vividali or Brave if you want to use something that uses less ram. Opera GX does offer a ram limiter but it's owned by a Chinese government and has suspicious methods. I would try out Brave for your laptop and make sure to disable HE. Grammarly also works for google docs on Brave, which is a HUGE plus.

Brave sync does work btw, I use it myself.

Firefox has great sync but yea ram amounts suck. Try Brave and if neither work try playing with extension settings and possibly cleaning your FF hardening out and using Tor more.

Hm, I've only ever used Chrome. Is it really good?
FireFox is the best option according to everyone ever. Brave is a very close second. Everything else is a chunk behind. I would use Brave if you want it to feel and be like chrome, Firefox is you want a big switch. Both are great. I'd be down to call and show you both in like 10 minutes' time it takes to do so.

What makes FireFox so good would you say?
If Firefox is using the proper extensions and hardening*

There's a ton of sources online that pretty much all say to use Firefox. I would really do the research yourself and attempt to come to an unbiased conclusion.

Reddit searches/Articles are a great way to start

If you decide to switch, r/Firefox has great guides to help switch.

I don't see why someone would use an extremely safe browser like Tor. It's not like we are important enough to track down.
That's why I use Firefox/Brave for regular use. I don't need Tor all the time. As https://tools.privacymachine.info/browsers.html explained

This is a response to a user that says Tor should always be used.
"As with all things there is risk. I'm certainly not gong to stop you from using it, but with the sheer multitude of great options out there as well as the customization of browsers (forks, hardening) options that are better or match Tor. I see no reason for exposing Tor to new users. There are more malicious exits to count now than when that article was published. Another thing with Tor is that it's very slow, so new users or users working on research papers or anything that requires good search results with speed will avoid it. It's really no different than let's say FF for example, hardened and callbacks removed is any worse than Tor?

I say adapt and use what works for you. There is no reason to use a product once it becomes degraded, changed for the worse etc.., with some I see that they cling to a particular thing and even though it was good at first has become dreadful, but continue to use it."

I honestly switch between firefox and chrome pretty regularly.

Some things seem to run better on chrome and vice versa.
Have you tried swapping Chrome with other chromium-based browsers? This could eliminate chrome while solving your running things issues.
https://vivaldi.com/ - I don't like this one but it's reasonable privacy secured
https://brave.com/ - Best option in my opinion
https://www.opera.com/ - Chinese company but if you must
https://www.epicbrowser.com/ - No experience but apparently outdated

I have but I do not feel like it would be overly beneficial without cutting google out of my life completely. Some day I may end up switching though.

You don't necessarily need to cut out google. I switched to DDG because I prefer unbiast search results, Qwant is good aswell.

I use tons of google stuff on FireFox and Brave! It's everything for school. Those options are faster, more secure and feel better to use. Up to you of course.
