Privacytools recommends good extensions but there are some other extensions you should get to add to that. You also mention the slowness, you need to consider some of the extensions do slow your browser. I personally have a speed school browser and an online use FF browser.
You can still use plain chromium, vividali or Brave if you want to use something that uses less ram. Opera GX does offer a ram limiter but it's owned by a Chinese government and has suspicious methods. I would try out Brave for your laptop and make sure to disable HE.
Grammarly also works for google docs on Brave, which is a HUGE plus.
Brave sync does work btw, I use it myself.
Firefox has great sync but yea ram amounts suck. Try Brave and if neither work try playing with extension settings and possibly cleaning your FF hardening out and using Tor more.
I’m going to download it and test it lmfaoIts already on the poll your boomer its opera gx
Have you tried swapping Chrome with other chromium-based browsers? This could eliminate chrome while solving your running things issues.I usually switch between Chrome & Firefox periodically.
Try looking at my message above.I use Chrome or Safari depending on the device I’m using.
I wouldn't, it really doesn't do much and while it is a reputable company, it's all under the ChineseI’m going to download it and test it lmfao
The main reaosn I used opera GX is due to the limiting ability's and the sleek look of itHave you tried swapping Chrome with other chromium-based browsers? This could eliminate chrome while solving your running things issues.
https://vivaldi.com/ - I don't like this one but it's reasonable privacy secured
https://brave.com/ - Best option in my opinion
https://www.opera.com/ - Chinese company but if you must
https://www.epicbrowser.com/ - No experience but apparently outdated

I would swap Privacy Badger with PrivacyPossum. I've read that you should remove CanvasBlocker. Make sure uBlock is the proper one and not a knockoff. I've never heard of WebRTC, momentum and Session Synch. ScriptBlocker and Snowflake may be some good things to checkout if you want to go the extra mile. Do your research, don't always go off of one website.
- uBlock Origin
- User-Agent changer
- Bitwarden
- Cookie AutoDelete
- Session Sync (https://github.com/ReDEnergy/SessionSync)
- WebRTC Leak Shield
- Privacy Badger
- Universal Bypass
- Momentum
- Decentraleyes
- CanvasBlocker
- HTTPS Everywhere
edit: Disconnect.me's extension is great aswell!
with regards to Brave, is there a way to remove its $BAT features? i didn't choose brave as i thought features like this, which to me are unnecessary, would slow it down. also, i've avoided Brave in the past due to the fact that it whitelists certain trackers and ads from Facebook and Twitter, contains a tracker on its homepage, and doesn't let me disable autoupdates (i use Homebrew Cask to manage my applications and would rather manually update, i completely understand the security implications but feel as though i would prefer to use the Terminal to update applications)
I have BAT disabled myself. I believe you can disable the whitelisted tracks. You can also get the same extensions you have for Firefox. I'd take some time and decide yourself.
i don't use Google Docs as i've completely degoogled (minus YouTube, but i'm trying to use Invidious more - i use YT without an account in private browsing at the moment). also, Grammarly has a very bad privacy policy, so i would use it as less as possble.
Good for you! Grammarly does track, I have a auto disabled enabled for grammarly and enable it for school when needed. You can actually throw it into the editor in Incognito mode if you want to go that far.
firefox sync works except it didn't sync extension settings and appearance settings, so i'll probably have to end up trading some privacy for convenience and use brave.
 Brave sync is a great feature, haven't had much experience with FF's though.
i already use Tor a lot, being an avid user of the Tor network while working at school. i'll try Brave and see if i can disable the features i dislike.
Definitely. I would remember not to use built-in Tor on Brave. You can see my post above.
EDIT: i've just installed brave, it's very speedy. i'll be migrating from firefox soon probably. to anyone who's used it before, please advise on ways to harden my Brave installation. i've disabled the $BAT features but want to harden it for maximum privacy.
There's a bunch of guides on how to harden. I'll edit this later. Let me know how it goes!
Brave just as sick. I've used both. The main reaosn I used opera GX is due to the limiting ability's and the sleek look of it
Only cool kids hereWheres the option for Internet Explorer!!1!
any advantages over Privacy Badger I should be aware of?I would swap Privacy Badger with PrivacyPossum.
any links to places where this is said? privacytools.io is one of the most reputable privacy websites at the moment, and are recommending it, r/privacy has also recommended it in numerous posts about Firefox hardening.I've read that you should remove CanvasBlocker.
i've made sure i am using uBlock Origin and not just normal uBlock.Make sure uBlock is the proper one and not a knockoff.
i disabled BAT, disabled whitelisted trackers, i'll probably use mitmproxy later on to look at some of the needless/shady connections (if any) from Brave to servers i'd rather not have it communicate with (e.g google) and block them using pf or lulu on my macOS install.I have BAT disabled myself. I believe you can disable the whitelisted tracks. You can also get the same extensions you have for Firefox. I'd take some time and decide yourself.
i don't use grammarly at all actually. LanguageTool is open-source and basically does the same thing as Grammarly. https://languagetool.org/Good for you! Grammarly does track, I have a auto disabled enabled for grammarly and enable it for school when needed. You can actually throw it into the editor in Incognito mode if you want to go that far.
which post?Definitely. I would remember not to use built-in Tor on Brave. You can see my post above.
if you don't mind sending me some, either over PM or here, it'd be greatly appreciatedThere's a bunch of guides on how to harden. I'll edit this later. Let me know how it goes!
Brave team:
"We aren't competing with Tor, we are using Tor as a feature. Brave with Tor does not provide the same level of Privacy as the Tor browser, if your life depends on remaining anonymous, use the Tor browser. If you just want to hide your browsing from ISP, work or school, then tor private tabs are for you. We are just making it super convenient for users to switch between regular browsing and Tor browsing.
I would encourage the use of both!"
I would read https://tools.privacymachine.info/browsers.html to understand why Tor isn't a good main browser.
Tryout Vividali or Brave. I personally prefer Brave but switching from Opera will be a good change if you care about privacy. Both are simple (more Brave) and both have great dark themes. Vividali has great theme customization.nothing will beat Opera for myself. Just love the simplicity and dark theme. Unless someone can change my mind of course![]()
it was last updated in july, vs privacy badger which was updated more recently, why is this? is development inactive?Same company, just more strict.
In my opinion Firefox is simply better all around, at least compared to Chrome, Opera, and Edge/Explorer. I'll give Tor credit, though I am just not a fan of the simplicity.
When it comes to security, Chrome has far better security than Firefox. Firefox is actually one of the least secure browsers.FireFox is the best option according to everyone ever. Brave is a very close second. Everything else is a chunk behind. I would use Brave if you want it to feel and be like chrome, Firefox is you want a big switch. Both are great. I'd be down to call and show you both in like 10 minutes' time it takes to do so.
Brave and FF have great sync!I use chrome just because it syncs my historys across my devices and it makes my chromes everywhere look the same so it's just easy
Privacy Possum has more active devs. As for Brave, not sure but Privacy Tools - ThePrivacyMachine and tons of threads on r/privacytools have it though.it was last updated in july, vs privacy badger which was updated more recently, why is this? is development inactive?
also - i've looked on privacytools.io and Brave isn't listed there, do you know the reason for that?
So uhhhhh... every single place every disagrees with you and basically says that statement was written by a 90 year old grandma on steriods. Some sources for this? This one of the worst statements I've ever heard. (ly though)When it comes to security, Chrome has far better security than Firefox. Firefox is actually one of the least secure browsers.
As for Brave, I've heard that Brave uses shady business models and injects its own ads into the browser while blocking competitor ads.
