I'm looking to buy a computer soon but I have no scope on what's good or not when it comes to this.

Looking to buy one under $400 (max $600). I use computers primarily for things like school work, Minecraft, photo/video editing software, and surfing the web. It should have a fair amount of storage and RAM. Must have 2+ USB ports, earphone jack, and optical drive.

Thanks!

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

My number one choice as of right now :)
Only thing, should the intel i3 worry me for what I'm looking for? I don't know much about it but the others I'm looking at have intel i7 but are lacking in other departments that I like about this one.
An i3 is not recommended for video editing. i5 will be fine, i7 recommeded.

Sometimes it's a good to go with eBay and Amazon with lower budgets and to buy one that needs to be upgraded. Also note that there are extensions for laptops that will allow them to use desktop graphics cards, external storage drives, doc hubs (that has all the ports of a desk top) and other things. I personally think that you could prob get at the least an i5 processor with 3 ghz speed, quad core, 8 gb ram, half a terrabyte hard drive, and all the ports you need for around that price. Might get lucky and find a combo that would allow you to get an i7 processor with 16 gb ram, once again if your lucky. I dont have much of a budget for buying computers so I browse eBay and Amazon allot to find a decent price.

An i7 alone would be 300+ bucks. So no.
However, you can get new computers that have crap ram but with an i7 for around $200, so it depends on where you get it. Keep in mind manufactures buy them in bulk and get them with a discount, so they can sell them cheeper.

That's true, but everything's going to bottleneck the i7. So there's no point. The i7 does NOT work well with any RAM lower than 8gb. Everything else can be crap but just not the RAM.
True, so its likely best to look for an i5 with higher ram like 16 gb, or if he is really lucky potentially get a I7 with 16 gb of ram. Although that would only happen if the seller dosnt know the price, for instance, a family member could have died and they dont know the value of tech. Honestly sales like that are the best for buying tech from my experience.

8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, i5 Processor, $457:

8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, i7 Processor, $549

Hoping to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad with i7 and 16GB RAM from Staples. My only problem is that it's quite costly and I haven't found many worthly opponents to it.
I'm going to buy it sometime next week so if anyone knows of one with similar features but sold at around $300/$400, I'm all ears.

I would go with this:

8gb RAM, 256gb SSD, GeFore 940MX graphics.

This would be better for gaming if you plan to play more titles other than Minecraft (Which is worth it)

+ if you want more ram, this is the same but 12gb ram:

Not really a PC gamer :p
I really need lots of SSD along with high RAM, graphics doesn't really matter as much.

My main need for it is for art, video editing, school, and MC.

I've just about settled on what to buy but I would like to hear opinions.

Here are my two choices:

i7-7500U, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD
$419.99

i5-7200, 12GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Backlit keyboard
$469.99

The second one is more expensive and has i5 vs i7 but includes touchscreen capability and 12GB of RAM. As a graphics designer, drawing directly on screen vs using a tablet (mine doesn't have a screen obviously) is a huge help but is it worth the other sacrifices?

Looking to buy today/tomorrow, whatever you have helps!
Thanks!
