This is something that a former user of the site showed me.

It apparently says that guests can only view 10 posts until they have to make an account.

This means that guests are restricted from viewing the site, which has an extreme negative impact on the amount of views a thread can get.
I believe there was a suggestion to do just this, and that it was originally rejected out of fear of killing site growth. That it has now been implemented is extremely worrying.

I'm paying for a sticky thread, yet I know for a fact that there is no way there's enough users on MCM interested in my products for it to be viable in the long run. Without guest views, a sticky thread is NOT worth the price by a long shot.


I would like an explanation, as well as this limitation removed on everything other than the OG accounts section, which is the only place where it can theoretically make sense, and is the only reason why it was originally suggested.

This is an extremely bad move by whoever decided to do it, negatively impacting the sales of every single user of this site.

If this is to become permanent, I would honestly be inclined to charge back on my account upgrades if I had paid for them myself in the first place.

obviously I wouldnt do so yet, but this makes buying sticky threads pretty much a scam.
So. No dodging the question, no vague talk, Mick I want to know why people who are not logged in and browsing the forums get to see the image I posted.

I believe if anyone is serious about anything they come across on MCM, especially if they are going to purchase something, they will make an account. And this is to encourage more people to actually register. I doubt there's very little people that get that message, and then never come back.

There is no reason to force people to make an account to view threads, except for threads that contain sensitive information. The only ones that qualify for this are minecraft accounts.

I just heard from mick that he had no idea why this is on, d3l3t3d anything that might have happened while fixing the last few downtimes? I know that tweaking with settings can sometimes mess up even if you're very experienced.

I was not aware that this is a thing until right now, and I certainly didn't introduce it. Ajdin must have introduced it and not informed the community about it, that's the only possible explanation. I am against this too, and will most likely remove it unless he has something to say about it and can give a valid reason for it being there (other than to get users to sign up). I personally didn't hear anything about this change, and it is a pretty major one due to the fact that it could seriously decrease the value of thread stickies, like you have already said.

There's an addon installed called 'Limit guest views', it certainly wasn't introduced accidentally. I do find it funny that you're so quick to bring d3l3t3d in to this.

Also, could you explain why this would be at all beneficial for us to enable for account selling? If a Mojang staff member wanted to crack down on account sales then I doubt a "You have to make an account" prompt would prevent them.

I am very interested too. People in shoutbox said they have paid $100s of dollars for advertisements during this time and weren't even informed of this drastic change which lessens the value of them? Wowsers.


But yeah, I really do doubt that Bosny would have an explanation of why it is worth keeping, I'll disable it for now.

If all they do is browse, why make an account? accounts are for if they want to post something.
