Hello Mc-market,

Note: This has nothing to do with how Mick runs the website. (This is not meant to be a goodbye thread and not a leaving thread.)

I honestly feel like the community has become toxic to the point that it is non workable. Yes, you might say "well there are developers, graphic designers etc. that work on here without a problem" trust me when I say this but some of those sellers do not like how they have to stick with prices that are unfair and unreasonable just to try and make money, which might support their living or just do whatever they want with it, but when it comes down to it, this is their main source of income, so complaining won't help. This thread is not meant to trash mcm, but honestly I can't take it anymore. This website is like a freelance website everyone try's to low ball your pricing just to get the job they want. When it comes down to it a website developer for example that could be making 1,000 for a website that on here cost 50-80$. MC-Market is basically a low ball machine that you wont win on. All website developers, graphic designers, developers and more can be selling their work for retail market price, but can't because of competition. I am speaking out for all of those who find this website to be toxic or low balling you, for the ones that don't want to come and speak out this is for you I understand the struggle and to be frank it is not pleasing. There have been many suggestions on how to fix it someway, but they never got accepted. So, to wrap this up MCM is toxic and in a state of non workable. Giving new users the right to post threads even highers the chance of people getting scammed, so in my beliefs this is even worse than freelancer.

Kind Regards,

TheLightDev

While I understand where you're coming from, I feel as if your perspective is misaligned with MCM as a marketplace.

If you look at MCM from the perspective of a beginner, it's actually not as bad. You get the experience of working with clients and make a very small amount of money for it. But from the perspective of trying to make your main revenue on it, the community is definitely not forgiving.

The userbase of this forum most likely consists of younger people that haven't had a "professional" income and don't need to pay bills for example. It's very difficult to compete with people who, by nature, can set their prices lower just because their expenses aren't as high.

When I came to MCM to sell about a month ago I didn't come here with the expectation of making a living. And although I do try to set my prices higher, I still need to remember that I came here to get experience working with real clients, deadlines and to do realistic work and learn to communicate in the appropriate manner.

TL;DR MCM is not a realistic place to try and make a living, that is elsewhere. This is a place for beginners and amateurs to get a start. There are some exceptions, but that is the gist of it.

You realize that a post like this just gives off the feeling of it being even more toxic than it is right?

Welcome to the real world bud, MCM is a piece of cake compared to real life.

I and many others know exactly who you're talking about. People like 1amDev, Elcro, @rexsdev and Wvisoecj could all be charging muxh more than they do on mcm. Infact Wvisoecj just raised his prices recently to get out if this market. They could all hike up their price in the hundreds and it would be justified 100%, however kids already complain now that $50 is too much for a website yet they expect the quality of a $2k website. As much as I'm sure they'd like to, they can't really set the bar for pricing in their field. The second they do their commissions will drop as most people on mcm are little kids who think their pricing now is already too much.

That is exactly why I am leaving. Goodbye everyone on mcmarket, its been a great run, but I need to focus more on school and try and expand my development skills.

TheLightDev Please read what axynos said. He has a point. At your age, the first thing on your mind should be gaining experience, not money. MCM is great for that if you choose the right clients. I'm not saying to undervalue your skills, but you should be satisfied with making $100 or so for a site now. That's more than most kids make in a week.
Kid please don't start this, you just based on what someones age is to how much they should be making. That is completely wrong. You can not compare someone like isaac to you.

I rest my case.

Nice one there,
This was not a leaving thread till I decided I wanted to leave :p.

Look, I'm gonna be blatantly honest; I think TheLightDev overcharged for his work because he hadn't learned how to design extremely well yet. On the other hand, it doesn't mean just because he's a kid he should put up with skids lowballing all the time. I'm 15 years old, and I'm on my third year of designing. I'm not gonna be scared of talking about money. I've made the same amount as if I had been working at Maccas the whole time. I have had the privilege of being in my own home and working my own hours doing something I love doing. Yes, I'm lucky.

But, the shell of me often looks like I just sit around designing Enjin sites for kids with a dream, and I make a whole lot of money. Realistically I make about $6-10 per hour. That's why I quite simply cannot lower my prices. I've actually recently been offered a job at a Cafe as a friend of mine works there, and if I went and took that I could actually make more money than I make from doing this garbage.

The fact I've charged money for my work the entire time (not even large amounts of money, I used to recode everything from scratch and do every page, charging $50) has taught me more lessons than anything else in my life. I've had to work with some very difficult people, move around my life to do this, chat with people all through the day about what they want, and how progress is going (which means I am usually half aware when hanging with friends as I'm on my phone), and I've pushed myself in every way around design, often feeling hopeless and like i've thrown away my life. Creativity cannot be forced.

Everything I've done has been my choice and I'm not complaining, I'm just explaining my point of view. TLD has the right to charge whatever he wants, and refuse as many jobs as he wants, and actually, he has the right to DO whatever he wants. I disagree that he should be just gaining experience and not making money. Making money is a learning experience for one, and the work we do (as much as it sometimes pains me to admit with tld) is a skill. A trained skill, often something we've spent years of time and money on.

Just going to pose a question here, why do you cause controversy, where you can, to further your cause. But good on you TheLightDev good luck in your future!

One of the great things of MCM is that you can learn life lessons of how to deal with money and people in an efficient and safe manner and can do that in an environment where the amounts are smaller, leading to less risk of losing huge amounts(relative term, I know) of money.
