The flag is a battle flag representing the states secession from the union. Fighting for the right to keep people in slavery and owning them as property. That flag is not a flag of the United States. It is the flag of civil war and an ideology that was soundly defeated.

You do realize the South didn't only break off because of slavery, right? They felt the North became the majority in general and that their opinion meant nothing. They generally felt ignored and after constant political debates they got sick of it.

Sure, slavery was terrible. But there's a little more to it beyond controlling black people.

That flag just sickens me when I see it waving in our nation.

Only a select few wave it because they want slavery back and are racist. For many its about their heritage and their ancestry. There is nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from as long as your able to admit the faults it had.

Yes I have been, I go to Texas for 3 weeks + every year. Everyone I've met there is very nice and caring, you just generalizing everyone is part of the problem.
