I had about $600 to invest, you have to have experience and mistakes
You also have to be very dedicated and hard working

This is why most people fail at servers, it's really hard
You have to put a lot of hard work into it
Yeah, that about sums up the requirements for startups as well.
Honestly, I think it's best to just start a few shitty servers with 0 budget, see if you can get it to work, advertise manually and see if you can get a few players to come on and try something, then see what goes wrong. Constantly try to break your own server, mess with plugin configs, etc. Then when you feel you're getting some more experience, try for an actual server with a budget around $500, and see how that goes for you.
Its also one of the reasons ive never tried to start one, I KNOW I wont have the dedication.

I disagree, I made 2-3k in profit off my server and it was actually running itself.

But then again you make a few good points.
It's just all about knowing the right people and being lucky most of the time.

just summing up what people think of it, I agree with you completely :p.
People forget that those that 'got lucky', like the devs of Angry Birds, preceded that 'luck' by a crapload of hard work and failures.

Speaking from past experience, I would like to say how I actually started out on MC realms and moved onto minecraft servers. And sure, I experienced hardships, but I pulled through and now I'm doing fine in regards of financially and player base. It may not be great, but it sure is better than how I started. And when I started, I never wanted to be a popular server, I wanted a server to play with my friends. So I asked money and they provided support for it. It's only now that I plan to make a server which may become financially successful in gaining more profit.[DOUBLEPOST=1497943269][/DOUBLEPOST]And with my current knowledge, I now know how to plan for the potential success :p[DOUBLEPOST=1497943394][/DOUBLEPOST]Btw, the way you presented the article was pretty harsh. Just the title alone brought so much attention and negativity. I recommend renaming to something more properly related to your original idea.

Most likely someone has already thought of almost every Hypixel idea, just hasn't brought it alive faster than Hypixel has.

"was"
It was unique because we shut the server down... I've never seen it done before and it could work if I redid it the right way kek

I say go for it if you want to make a server and you feel like you can do it then screw the haters and go for it. Do what you want to do not what others think,
thats how alot of people become successful... follow your dreams otherwise youll regret it.

Even if Hypixel is constantly stealing ideas, that still means there are constantly new ideas out there. They weren't all conceived at the start of minecraft.
Ideas will never be 100% unique. However, there could be new ways to do an old thing that feel very unique.
