You expand the brackets first, so...
2(9+3) =
2(12) = 24.

Then...
48 / 24 = 2.
So the answer is, 2.

It's not 2.

48 ÷ 2 (9 + 3)
48 ÷ 2 (12)
48 ÷ 2 x 12
24 x 12
=288

Seriously, just type it out on a calculator and find the right answer.

However, others will follow PEMDAS, a mnemonic term that stands for Parentheses, Exponentiation, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction. By this logic, multiplication must take place before division, resulting in solving the problem as follows:
Anyone who learned about PEMDAS should have also learned that Multiplication/Division, and Addition/Subtraction are equal.

LOL what the fuck have you guys been learning in school. Fuck the calculator and use order of operations. Answer is 2.
Using BIDMAS and using PEMDAS give different answers.

48 ÷ 2 (12)
48 ÷ 2 x 12
24 x 12

Seriously, just type it out on a calculator and find the right answer.
Calculators do not always use Order of Operations properly.

haven't done this in a while 36?

48/2(9+3)
9+3 = 12
48/2+12
48/2=24
24+12=36

Answer is 2. 48/(2(9+3)), if you use brackets.

Although, Wolfram Alpha, a computational knowledge engine returns 288.

This question is kinda stupid. It's similar to asking -4^2. Answer is obviously 16, but Wolfram Alpha returns -16.

-4^2 is actually -16. (-2)^2 is 16.

You don't include the negative sign when squaring unless there are brackets.
