Ok. So this is the original question: 48÷2(9+3) = ?
First, you always do what is in the parenthesis. 9 + 3 equals 12
What you have now 48÷2(12)
Note, the 12 is still in the brackets. In math, you always need to remove the parenthesis before doing anything else.
Therefore, you need to solve 2(12), which is 24
Now the equation is 48÷24, which is simply 2.

There is no other way.

Do you know what a bracket is? lol.

THE ANSWER IS 2 ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS. 2(9+3) IS ONE TERM. YOU NEED TO SOLVE IT ON IT'S OWN. AND I DON't UNDERSTAND PEOPLE THINKING THAT BIMDAS AND PEMDAS ARE DIFFERENT. WE'RE NOT LEARNING THIS DIFFERENTLY YOU'RE JUST STUPID. IT'S THE SAME PROCESS YOU'RE JUST WRONG.

-4 to the second power is the same thing as -4x-4.... Such as 5 to the second power is 25[DOUBLEPOST=1452044335,1452044300][/DOUBLEPOST]
Brackets are these []
I know he thought "(" these are brackets.

2(9+3) = 2 x 12...
PEMDAS says multiplication & division left to right, so 48 / 2 * 12 = 24 * 12 = 288

I changed it to parenthesis, please don't argue about brackets. I've always called them brackets, but I've changed them for this.[DOUBLEPOST=1452044504,1452044453][/DOUBLEPOST]Guys. You people are all claiming PEMDAS RULES AND BLAH, but what the hell? Are you even reading what it means? Parenthesis is first. That means, you have to get rid of the parenthesis first.

It means you simplify what's INSIDE THE PARENTHESIS ... not the parenthesis itself.

AS I SAID, 2(9+3) IS ONE TERM. IT MUST BE SOLVED INDEPENDANTLY. THE QUESTION IS ASKING FOR 48 DIVIDED BY 2 TIMES THE SUM OF 9 AND 3. 288 WOULD ONLY BE CORRECT IF IT WERE ASKING FOR THE PRODUCT OF 48 AND 2 MULTIPLED BY THE SUM OF 9 AND 2. BUT THATS NOT THE DAMN QUESTION IS IT.

No, you need to remove it or else it won't make sense. The final answer should not contain any parenthesis. If you are going with the 288 claim, that means:
9 + 3 = 12
48 / 2 = 24
24 x 12 = 288.
Where the hell did the parenthesis go? You cannot just remove them to suit your needs. That is against the basic rules of math.

I don't know where you learned your math, but you better check over it. If you want to argue about "one term", the whole expression is "one term". The definition of a term is: "Parts of an expression or series separated by + or – signs". The whole expression only contains multiplication and division.

Who said anything about removing them?
48 / 2 (9+3)
48 / 2 (12) - Simplification
48 / 2 * 12 - Replacing parenthesis with multiplication symbol
24 * 12 - PEMDAS says multiplication and division left to right
288 - PEMDAS says multiplication and division left to right

Ok I admit maybe saying 'removing the parenthesis' was wrong, but the rules of math dictates multiply before divide. I'm surprised you guys did not learn this in primary school math. Don't start on PEDMAS, because none of you bloody learnt PEDMAS before 'multiplication before division'
