Hi,

First of all, this is a thread which states my personal opinion. The outcome of the poll is just to give us an idea. I promise in no way that what gets voted the most will actually happen. Mick and tjrgg are sleeping so I thought I'd pick up some opinions so we can take actions fast.

As most of you know, Mojang has been locking a lot of accounts lately. Many people just lost access to their accounts and have no way to recover them.

Let me give my personal opinion on the entire account selling thing and after that I'll address some (possible) solutions. IMO there's no real solution to this.

I personally find the entire business toxic. It's not moral, most likely not legal and just a stupid thing. You steal someone's account, sell it and make your pocket money with that? Yeah, that just sounds terrible. Let's also not mention it's a very unstable business in many ways. Locking accounts, People TID'ing their accounts back, and the list just goes on and on. When I became admin back in August, I told the previous owner the same thing and I was honestly thinking "Removing the sale of accounts could actually make the forum less toxic and less of a scam paradise". Many months after that thought, I can confirm it 100%. I went through many threads, scam reports and sections and I believe removing the account section would be one of the best moves for the future of MC-Market.

Another that's worth mentioning, Scam reports. I don't see any possible solution to the countless chargebacks that will occur. So I highly doubt we could providing further support on scam reports regarding account sales.

So, what solutions do I see:
  • The most logical and most effective would be to disallow the sale of accounts on the entire forum completely. We can't do something like "remove the sections but allow sale of it". We either allow it, or not at all. Reason behind this is scam reports. Now you might say, "Allow the sale of accounts but don't provide support on scam reports." - We can't do that. If someone scams by selling accounts, we'd have a scammer on the forum, everyone would be calling him a scammer while it can't be resolved via a scam report.
  • Ignore the entire situation and continue the sale of accounts. - I really can't see this happening. I just can't...
Suggest anything as I'm completely out of ideas. I'll add anything reasonable to the list and poll.

As for MCM's future, most people are saying "RIP MCM". I think this is far from true. Sure, sale of accounts is a big thing. Sure, it's bringing a lot of traffic. However, removing it will not make the forum die. I personally have been brainstorming around MCM ever since I've joined the staff team and i've shared some of my secret ideas which could make MCM grow with some people and most of them liked them! However right now, the forum is improving, but accounts are not worth having anymore with these recent events. The amount of reports, scam reports and administration it brings along simply makes it not worth having imo.

I never really showed this much hate against the entire account selling business but I think it's getting really terrible now and I'd personally like to see accounts removed from MC-Market completely.

Vote. If you have anything to say, please don't hesitate to do so.

Keep everything on topic and clean. I'll remove any posts which are irrelevant and don't contribute to the thread. it's a serious thing and should be treated as such.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Sure! There are always plugins and devs... until you realize Spigot did it 1000x better than MCM because a) Less scams b) They have a good resource system and c) Devs are serious there. They actually have experience working for big servers.
Reasons for all 3 points being true:
  1. Maturer community (still 13 year old kids, but they don't find dicks funny)
  2. Maturer and less retarded staff, and better rules which are better enforced
  3. Community isn't all hack forums members
  4. Community is composed of businessman or hobbyist server owners, not trolls and really, really sad people

Do you want to disallow the sale of them even privately? I don't see why accounts being sold privately would be a problem.

The buyer sends an email to Mojang support. If it was trans ID'd, they'll tell you that the account was retrieved by the original owner. If it was locked, they'll tell you that due to suspicions, the account has been suspended.
Okay. So you want to rely on Mojang again? Their support team is flawed in many ways. It's been proven in the past that they don't all follow the same guidelines.

I don't want the outcome of a scam report to rely on Mojang. Let's also not mention, emails can be easy faked and whatnot.

I'm personally starting to think they don't even browse MCM looking for accounts. I think they use some sort of flagging system. It probably puts some sort of flag on your account if the login regions jump around the globe and the passwords and emails change suddenly.

It would be kinda hard for them. 22 million accounts, activity on a large amount of them every second. How do they plan to stop the selling of accounts? People hop on VPNs/proxies every day. Thousands of aircraft take off each hour - how many people are travelling to visit some place and then they feel like playing Minecraft at their destination? Is that an account hacking, or legitimately someone travelling? Is it a VPN, or not? Is it a proxy, or not? Is the account shared, or not?

Mojang cannot ever know for sure.
30k registrations on this forum. I can write a script right now which will grab all IP's, do lookups on public db's and tell me if the IP is a proxy and all accounts affiliated with it.

If I can do that^, what do you think Microsoft and Mojang can do?[DOUBLEPOST=1456856651,1456856539][/DOUBLEPOST]

<Goes to router settings>
<Adds port forwarding to port 8080>

<Sets up a squid server>

And there you go. I now have a proxy server that shows as your average cheap home ISP, but is in reality a proxy server

<Disconnects router>
<Plugs back in>

And the old ip is GONE and I have a new one.

DB lookups are not 100% reliable.
Okay. IP flag can be ignored. How would you explain email, password AND security questions suddenly changing from the other side of the world?

I think you should be able to do it, but at your own risk.

Still no guarantees.

I guess Mojang can shut the account down because of that, but its still entirely possible I just flew to the other side of the world, and felt like changing my password.

Or maybe I was coding a Minecraft username sniper and accidentally built a pass & email & security question changing software? :cool:
You just don't want to agree with the fact that Mojang is killing accounts and that MC-Market can do very little about it.

You could let people purchase at their own risk rather than assuming they're too retarded to make their own decisions. :)
