Probably going to be very controversial. We all know that IP addresses are public information and are not always accurate to finding the location of someone or whatever.

However, to deter the behavior of scamming and getting away with just a ban, I argue we should release the scammer's IP address. They'll probably use VPNs that bypasses MCM's measures against them but whatever, I say there are many small time scammers who should have this public information be released and whatever happens to them isn't on MCM's fault.

Again IP is just public information.

Edit:
While I certainly don't support this, what I can say is that MCM is perfectly free to release everyone's IP address and if they really wanted to, they could potentially sell it to other entities lol. (Since this is MCM, I'm going to preempt a question - yes, the Federal Court of Australia has ruled that IP addresses are not considered to be personal information and therefore are not protected by Privacy or Data Protection Laws.)

^ Says enough about IP addresses being considered public information where Mick lives.

what if someone just ddoses them...
Not MCM's fault. Its public information, just difficult to get if you don't know how to on websites like these.

I don't see this working out. It will just cause way too many issues and people wouldn't want to use the site.
Eh, just don't scam?

The moment you start thinking IPs are trivial is the moment you compromise someone's security.
  1. DDoS attacks are a thing. Don't tell me they won't happen because their IPs are too 'unimportant' - there is a chance it will happen.
  2. It's completely unethical. Yes they've done the wrong thing, but they got banned for it. End. Of. Story.

Yes it's public information, but not information worth purposely sharing. Services don't share IPs with other users. That would give them grief, and would literally be a liability.

TL;DR: No, no, no and no. Absolutely not.

Believe it or not scammers are people too. Just because they scam doesn't mean they should have their information leaked. IP's are not public and if they were giving people's ip's publically would be allowed.

I don't disagree they're people as well. But they did harm, financial harm to another person. Their public information of IP should be at least released in addition to their ban. Just my opinion.

Eh... I've heard the argument that ip addresses are public information.

Once again I don't see this working out. You don't just give people your private information because you did something wrong. I REALLY hope this never becomes a thing.

You've heard the argument they're public information? Well yes, they're publicly retrievable, but they belong to the ISPs and are utilised by the customers of those ISPs... but they don't belong to a 3rd party service. The fact they're retrievable doesn't make it public - that's like saying DOXING is justifiable because it's all public information. (It's not, it's just the information is publicly retrievable, or retrievable nonetheless)

To my most likely limited knowledge, doxing includes far more than retrieving an ip address. Such as a physical address but I could very well be wrong in that IP addresses are considered private information.

You're absolutely retarded, all I'm going to say.
 Don't let me see this thread a month from now and see that you were banned for being a ban evader. Theres just alot of new members who say the things you just said and I get a great laugh looking back .

I didn't know this, but I guess my point about ip addresses being public information is legal for MCM to consider and do

Yea lol, they can even track down what computer you signed in from (which means they can acquire some info about and on your PC) and possibly where you live. All of this lies within MCM's ToS.

However, referring to the thread, users that break the rules are already receiving a ban on MC-Market. If your idea is to simply "teach them a lesson" by leaking their IP then I'm going to definitely side against this idea.
