Banned Scammer IP Release

Probably going to be very controversial. We all know that IP addresses are public information and are not always accurate to finding the location of someone or whatever.

However, to deter the behavior of scamming and getting away with just a ban, I argue we should release the scammer's IP address. They'll probably use VPNs that bypasses MCM's measures against them but whatever, I say there are many small time scammers who should have this public information be released and whatever happens to them isn't on MCM's fault.

Again IP is just public information.

While I certainly don't support this, what I can say is that MCM is perfectly free to release everyone's IP address and if they really wanted to, they could potentially sell it to other entities lol. (Since this is MCM, I'm going to preempt a question - yes, the Federal Court of Australia has ruled that IP addresses are not considered to be personal information and therefore are not protected by Privacy or Data Protection Laws.)

To my most likely limited knowledge, doxing includes far more than retrieving an ip address. Such as a physical address but I could very well be wrong in that IP addresses are considered private information. :tup:

If you own a device where you can even scam other people, you obviously have parents/guardians who will give you money. If they don't give you money, they give you everything you actually need such as food and shelter. If you need money for something like a PS4 and your parents won't give it to you so you get the money off the hard work of other people, you clearly have a lack of morals.

You're doing something unethical, and in releasing your ip which is public information, what becomes unethical is if that ip is exploited by someone else to attack you. It shouldn't MCM's responsibility to keep you safe now that you've been banned from the site. That's how I see it at least.

Im not fully aware of the GDPR regulations but id assume the GDPR would be an issue in implementing such features. But at this point this is most likely not going to be implemented due to the amount disagrees.

Why should their IP be leaked if something was out of their hands, such as someone compromising a members account, scamming on it, and the Owner of the account being unable to pay everyone back?

2 Factor Authentication will make this scenario very unlikely. If so, its a case by case basis/support ticket your way out of it.

You never know if other people would be affected if MC-Market leaked IPs and people were hitting the person off.
Why should MC-Market risk affecting other people's internet simply because someone scammed?

I suppose this is a valid point. I would find it unlikely however for the consequences meant for person who scammed to end up on someone else that is supposedly innocent.

With Ddos attacks and hacking with malicious intent being illegal in Australia, if mcm did do this and someone did get attacked/hacked, I'm sure someone could very easily sue MCM. Stranger things have happened in Australia law. Therefore, this would be a stupid idea both from a business standpoint and a moral standpoint.
