Probably going to be very controversial. We all know that IP addresses are public information and are not always accurate to finding the location of someone or whatever.

However, to deter the behavior of scamming and getting away with just a ban, I argue we should release the scammer's IP address. They'll probably use VPNs that bypasses MCM's measures against them but whatever, I say there are many small time scammers who should have this public information be released and whatever happens to them isn't on MCM's fault.

Again IP is just public information.

Edit:
While I certainly don't support this, what I can say is that MCM is perfectly free to release everyone's IP address and if they really wanted to, they could potentially sell it to other entities lol. (Since this is MCM, I'm going to preempt a question - yes, the Federal Court of Australia has ruled that IP addresses are not considered to be personal information and therefore are not protected by Privacy or Data Protection Laws.)

^ Says enough about IP addresses being considered public information where Mick lives.

To be fair, people are just scared this will give MCM a reputation/tendency to release ips of users who break other rules (expanding the consequences that earn such a thing).

That, and people generally (for whatever reason I can't seem to understand) believe its immoral to release that information on anyone.

I understand the part about reputation and not releasing people's info.
But you gotta understand these people are scammers and bad people, they don't deserve anything.

So if someone does something bad automatically they deserve to have their lives ruined?
Depends on the thing obviously, but if it's about being a scum and scamming some guy for a loan for example then, yes.

Although, you are over-exaggerating.

This is just like being put in a human centipede when your in jail already oml
not a fair comparison imo, if you're in jail alot of your freedoms are stripped away. These scammers just lose the right to browse on MCM. They're free to do whatever they want outside of it lol.

I'm sure there are situations were people are falsely accused of scamming. I don't think just a ban does enough, but this isn't the solution. A link needs to be put in place between mcm and discord, discord is where the majority of these scams are happening. If mcm made a server where you could verify your identity from site I feel a lot of scams would be avoided.

Believe it or not scammers are people too. Just because they scam doesn't mean they should have their information leaked. IP's are not public and if they were giving people's ip's publically would be allowed.
Scammers don't deserve rights or protection, but yes, releasing IPs is not a good way to punish them further.

Mick has denied discord because he cant monetize off of it. On a forum he can control alot more monetization. Also, linking your discord to your mcm account won't lessen scams. Either a system needs to be in place to educate buyers and sellers more effectively, deter scamming with a severe consequence (what I am suggesting), or a system to alert users of a potential scammer (the caution tag idea).

User IP’s aren’t PI, and nothing can be done with them except a very broad geolocation (which is sometimes states off regardless) and DDoS attacks which can be mitigated by changing your IP which takes 30 seconds.

Who cares?

Everyone that disagreed is an evader
Either an evader or a soon to be banned scammer, it'll be funny to see alot of users on this thread who fought against this so heavily a few months from now and see their reason for being banned "Scamming" xD

I wouldn't say everyone though. Just a nice chunk.
