Probably going to be very controversial. We all know that IP addresses are public information and are not always accurate to finding the location of someone or whatever.

However, to deter the behavior of scamming and getting away with just a ban, I argue we should release the scammer's IP address. They'll probably use VPNs that bypasses MCM's measures against them but whatever, I say there are many small time scammers who should have this public information be released and whatever happens to them isn't on MCM's fault.

Again IP is just public information.

Edit:
While I certainly don't support this, what I can say is that MCM is perfectly free to release everyone's IP address and if they really wanted to, they could potentially sell it to other entities lol. (Since this is MCM, I'm going to preempt a question - yes, the Federal Court of Australia has ruled that IP addresses are not considered to be personal information and therefore are not protected by Privacy or Data Protection Laws.)

^ Says enough about IP addresses being considered public information where Mick lives.

Invalid. IP is public information, it can be released. Theres just an "ethical taboo" about it.

MC-Market complies with the GDPR which states IP’s arent personably identifiable information, so no, it couldn’t.

You are correct, it is not personal data. But that data can be used to build a profile on a person which can lead to many other issues which then becomes illegal. If you release the wrong person IP then this site may come into legal issues. Just don't do it.

An IP address in isolation is not personal data under the Data Protection Act, according to the Information Commissioner. But an IP address can become personal data when combined with other information or when used to build a profile of an individual, even if that individual's name is unknown.

An IP alone cannot do ANYTHING. Geolocation, that is it. And that’s a very large range. You can’t get an address, a name, anything personably identifiable with an IP.

The only way an IP will lead to any sort of information being released is if the ISP is given a legal warrant to release information.[DOUBLEPOST=1549079270][/DOUBLEPOST]

And yes, you can DDOS an IP, and that can be stopped in under thirty seconds. Not like every person has the ability to boot someone offline anyways lmao.[DOUBLEPOST=1549079352][/DOUBLEPOST]I’ll DM my IP to anyone, and if you can give me my address, $200 PayPal. Issue is, no one will be able too

If databases are leaked and IPs are associated with usernames, IPs can be used to find usernames (and potentially passwords), as demonstrated with certain services.

But besides the legal obligations, how is this ethical, like, at all?

By the way Bear and Satan, calling people who disagreed an evader and/or potential scammer is a generalisation and inaccurate thing to suggestion.

Calling a certain amount of users that post on this thread and use language such as its retarded or what not, rather than arguing with the suggestion for its flaws, is certainly not generalization.

As for inaccuracy, lets look back at this a few months from now and see just how many users were banned for scamming ironically for the lols.

People can surprise you, a huge website that got shut down about a year ago used to release IP Addresses as punishment for bans and those people who got banned what get absolutely destroyed. From getting someones IP Address to social engineering an ISP operative, from pizzas to doors, it was anarchy. IP addresses need to be kept private. Don't be so cocky.

You can DOXX people with an ip, I'd give you a detailed tutorial but that'd be unethical and shitty, just like this thread.

We can match up records on request, however with your idea, it’s simply giving out information to people that have no business dealing with it.

I don’t see how it would significantly decrease scam rates beside making a deterrent, although that’s bypassable. If you wanted to check if the person you’re dealing with was banned for scamming before, IP addresses change and become inaccurate over time. You’d also probably have difficulty asking them to give you their IP...

It’s simply an invasion of privacy.
Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
