Hey all,

Recently, MCM made a good step in the right direction by enforcing strict policies against resource leakers and those affiliated. However, in the eyes of many, it was a half-baked effort knowing that this site thrives on the Minecraft TOS violating sales of accounts (and the other range of TOS violating services this website facilitates). I wish to see the removal of accounts as a step towards making this marketplace a platform that actually cares about ethics.

Why would we want to ban the sale of accounts?
  1. Legitimize the marketplace. The site hypocritically enforces Rule 5.4 by striking down those who violate product ownership rights heavily, yet turns a blind eye to the sale of Minecraft Accounts which violates Mojang’s TOS. Choose one or the other. Remove 5.4 and commit to being a black market, or equally enforce your own rules across all sections of the forum. Being inconsistent and half-assed only annoys the community even more.

  2. Get rid of our most toxic and notorious members. The accounts market is saturated, comprising of crackers stealing accounts, returning ban evaders and is also the section holding the most linked scam reports often closing due to inconclusive evidence.

  3. The site no longer needs to allocate resources to develop features and moderate the section. "Opportunity cost"

  4. MC-Market will not die. By considering points 1 and 3, MCM can become an even better place for everyone and expand into even more markets. There are far more and far better opportunities out there.

Fun reads :
The site doesn’t need to be plagued by accounts anymore. This site has a bigger future for itself by legitimizing itself into a community that leads others. Honestly, I shouldn't even need to be trying to convince everyone by explaining all the benefits of removing the section. This should not have been even allowed on this site in the first place.

“Massive market more to come”? It’s a saturated market, what are you on about. It’s so saturated, people are encouraged to jack accounts from each other for a quick buck. Plus I don’t recognise the so called entrepreneurs you’re talking about, but if they made their money off illegitimate sales of accounts, I wouldn’t be proud of that.
You dont recognize anyone on that list? Genuine question how were you even staff on here? have you like ever look inside the account section like at all? (lol says he doesnt know who doge is what a meme)

I do not agree with removing selling of accounts. This would be the fastest way to destroy the community and business side of mcm that's been growing for years. I do agree with this point Lotus brought up, "Choose one or the other. Remove 5.4 and commit to being a black market, or equally enforce your own rules across all sections of the forum."
A lot of the problem seems to be from inconsistency. So, let's just commit to what we are. An acc selling forum. As Doge brought up who cares? Mojang for the most part could care less, the only reason they are slightly amused by us is because of all this debate. ppl legit sell rank accs in game all the time. I realize im just a user and don't have backend knowledge like some staff do but attempting to be something we're not is not the answer.

I was 14 and I sold it /exposed the method out of shame, but yeah, that is pretty hypocritical I agree.

Let me rephrase this because you guys have a good point. I agree with Anime Lover's argument about how this site is completely based off of this kind of stuff, but, I don't think its fair to generalize and say everyone who disagree'd to you is an idiot and everyone who agreed is an expert, therefore making everyone who disagreed with your opinion irrelevant. You can't just assume something and then assume something off of that.

These proposals are extremely dangerous for the future of MC-Market.

MC-Market will grow and prosper more if it continues to evolve into a broad-church - a forum that yes, specialises in Minecraft-related items and services, but also one that supports other games and services too. MC-Market is a diverse selection of goods and services for sale, and it's why it's grown so much in the past 2-3 years.

However, we still see Minecraft accounts as a sizeable portion of user activity and expenditure on this website. I know many users that are solely involved in the Minecraft accounts section, and MC-Market would be rendered useless for them if they were removed. Should we remove the sale of Minecraft accounts from MC-Market, we'd be killing a large part of our site.

We shouldn't be pulling the carpet from under the person, so to speak, rather we should be providing them with a safe platform on which to buy and sell Minecraft accounts - and I connect this to the addition of the Minecraft association add-on, so users can prove they own the account, as well as a good reputation system and a scam report system. MC-Market shouldn't be trying to remove a section that's been available and encouraged to users for years - and one which so many active and dedicated MCM member utilise on a daily basis.

Minecraft account sales are never going to stop, whether MC-Market allows or disallows their sale on this platform. MCM users have connections to eachother, whether that be on Skype, Discord or on other sites, and should we remove the sale of Minecraft accounts, users will flock to competitor sites, which are usually more insecure and don't utilise the security features we do, such as the association add-on and the reputation system. This will inevitably result in more users being scammed and being out of pocket - which is something none of us want to see. As I've said, sales will happen regardless of MCM's place in them.

yet turns a blind eye to the sale of Minecraft Accounts which violates Mojang’s TOS
This is a fair concern, but by the same logic, shouldn't we be banning the sale of all servers that aren't EULA compliant - or banning the sale of servers altogether? You've raised the question of consistency, but do you advocate it being applied site-wide?

To be consistent, we'd be pulling away much of the site from users. We'd be left with a handful of sections, which would cause more and more unsafe competitor sites to be established and the mass migration of our users over to them. MC-Market would be rendered useless if we began to apply your logic, as there wouldn't be enough active members to suffice selling your items and/or services on MC-Market.

Get rid of our most toxic and notorious members
As you'll know, MCM has many security features in place that minimise the risk of being scammed, such as the association add-on and the reputation feature. Instead of taking away the section altogether, we should be asking ourselves how do we best protect users during these sales. Removing account sales altogether to get rid of our most toxic and notorious members is the easy way out, and we shouldn't be discontinuing a section of our site that so many benefit from because of a minority that have malice intentions.

The accounts market is saturated
In itself, market saturation isn't a bad thing - it's rather good for consumers. There's no negative for the accounts market being saturated as it just provides more and more accounts for users to purchase. It is up to individual members to decide whether they want to keep trading in a saturated market, not the responsibility of MC-Market administrators.

comprising of crackers stealing accounts, returning ban evaders and is also the section holding the most linked scam reports often closing due to inconclusive evidence
Another fair concern, but I still believe that we shouldn't remove such a well-liked section from the site because of the actions of a minority. Scamming, stealing, etc is inevitable in all sections of MC-Market, and we should be trying to come up with ways of protecting users whilst allowing them to profit from the section. After all, it's what a marketplace is for.

MC-Market will not die
The Minecraft accounts section, as I mentioned earlier, is a sizeable portion of total activity and expenditure of users on MC-Market. You may be right, removing the accounts section in it's entirety may not lead to the downfall and death of MCM, but if we are to stay consistent, as consistency is one of your top reasons for the removal of the accounts section, we would need to remove much more than just accounts - killing MC-Market.

Let's think of ways to better protect our users whilst buying and selling accounts, and let's look to develop MC-Market into a larger, more active and more advanced marketplace forum, instead of taking away large sections of the site that users utilise regularly, and massively profit from.

If we're gonna remove selling minecraft accounts, then you'll also need to remove the social media accounts section since those would also violate the ToS for the sites they're associated with.

Also while we're at it, we should probably get rid of the gift code & licences section since reselling them is usually against the ToS as well. For example, for amazon giftcards it states this in their ToS: "Gift Cards cannot be reloaded, resold, transferred for value or redeemed for cash, except to the extent required by law."

And also we should get rid of the loan / investment section entirely then since usually PayPal is used for loaning the money, which is against their ToS as well.

The sale of minecraft accounts accounts for a good portion of why users even come here. Not a good idea. This decision would have a major effect on the amount of users who purchase ranks and rank upgrades, the traffic to the site, and a lot of the userbase on the site may depart and go elsewhere to somewhere that would suit their needs. It would only hurt MCM by having this implemented and if you decide to seriously implement this the effects would be irreversible
