Alright, so I bought a server about a week ago from them. First issue is the server setup, it took around 24 Hours for it to be activated, however, I was compensated for this downtime. Second, there's a few things that aren't configured properly:

Third, support is slow, and the support team seems to be very small.

The issue in your screenshot was not due to a misconfiguration. We use a custom module that was developed in-house - it seems this information was overlooked during development, however it does not impact any service. We'll resolve this and push out an update shortly. I think it should be noted that at the time you posted this message, your ticket with us was open for 30 minutes. The majority of our responses are under an hour, however as we're now in the Christmas/holiday period, there may be some delays (it's currently Christmas Eve in Australia). While we are still operating over this period, our available team is smaller than usual. As of this message, you have already received a response to your ticket.

Hey, so i wanted to ask you this. Are you using an automated system to upgrade ram? If so, there might be a lot of holes users can exploit. Especially developers.

Yes, the system is automated. However, we have considered this and have implemented features to prevent abuse.

Developers might be able to make a plugin that uses up every single bit of the server's ram. What would your system do in this case?

Before a server's RAM is upgraded, it must be using a medium-high percentage of it's available RAM for an extended period of time. This alone should protect against the majority of abuse, however in addition to this we also have a soft limit of 3 upgrades per day. This limit is a value that is unlikely to be reached in a single day by a regular server, so it should not affect regular users. This limit allows us to closely monitor these servers and means we can detect abuse before it becomes an issue.

Beyond this - the chance of someone attempting to abuse the system realistically is quite low. There would be no personal gain for a developer to create a plugin to use up a server's RAM, the only objective in this case would be affect other servers on the same node, however as I explained above, we already have measures in place to prevent this. Our terms of service also covers this type of abuse - "intentionally trying to use more resources than your server requires will result in a suspension or termination of your service".

Hopefully this answered your question - please let us know if you had any other questions or concerns.

So, here's another one question i have: So, if the ram is upgraded, and you see that a LOT LESS ram is being used, do you downgrade their ram? so for example:

developer makes plugin that uses a lot of ram to upgrade to 9 gigs of ram

after a while their usage is only max 2-3 gigs of ram

will you downgrade their ram?

Our system does downgrade servers using a low amount of RAM, however downgrading works much slower than upgrading. To avoid servers being constantly upgraded and downgraded multiple times per day, the percentage of RAM usage for a server must be very low (under 20%) for an extended period of time before a downgrade will be triggered. In the example you provided, the server would not be downgraded, despite using under half of the total RAM. This type of behaviour and the thresholds we set for upgrades/downgrades will be tweaked over time, however generally the only risk of a server using much lower memory than what is assigned is if a memory leak occurs and uses all of the assigned memory - this is why there are soft limits in place for memory, so issues such as a memory leak or purposeful abuse do not affect other servers.

Our goal with the soft limit of memory is to set it high enough so that it is not noticed by regular use, but low enough that in the case of abuse or a memory leak, the impact is minimal and will not affect other servers.

Now what if a Server that needs RAM right off the bat, for example, a HCF server (Due to their SOTW). For some servers, SOTW gets 250+ players in the span of 20 minutes. With your "Upgrade System" the server will not get the amount of RAM that they need (20GB+) and even if they do, I doubt they would like to restart (If I am wrong about this, please say so :))

My question is, Can servers get a certain amount of RAM immediately, to compensate for their large Plugins and high number of Players?

Our upgrade system is designed in a way that would adjust a server like this to the correct size very quickly. Upgrades are triggered at different rates depending on the percentage of memory in use and the amount of RAM the server is upgraded by also varies depending on the percentage of memory that was in use at the time. Besides this, there is of course the option for manual intervention, so if you think your server would require over 20GB off the bat it would be possible to contact our support to request a manual upgrade.

Let me you if you have any further questions, or if you'd like me to explain in further detail.

Is there a test server?

We do have test servers available for you to test your connection. Currently these are both running Minecraft 1.11.2 (the latest version of Minecraft). The IPs are listed below for each location:

North America: na.boostram.com
Europe: eu.boostram.com

Please let us know if you have any further questions regarding our service.

Bought a server from them awhile ago had no issues for a while until today when my panel started glitching out and then I reset my server and it won't even turn on now.

Personally would not recommend the host if you are moving from a different host. I expected better support/response time as I've usually gotten response within a day or two on shockbyte, but instead, all I'm getting is response every 5 or 6 days. I've been asking to move files since day 1, and it's been around 10 days with no progress of the transfer with extremely delayed response time on tickets.

Okay Switchbladed I have a question,
I see that Shockbyte has 1 GB servers for $2.50. So if I buy 8 of those it would be $20 which is the same price of your unlimited plan. So after 8GB would it be "free ram" ?

2.5 x 8 = 20
20 Represents the Price ($)
All Currency Listed is in USD
