I consistently see people on the banned users for not being 13 years old, however their banning sentence lasts forever. This defies me as they are no longer permitted to sell, and never had a chance. You're punishing people for being honest.

Fun fact: The younger ones are less likely to scam than most, really just cause they don't know how and don't need to.

What I'm asking is for the ban to last till they turn 13 based on the date they set their birthday as, that seems reasonable right?

also to the guy who's gonna say "i n-0 w@nT kIDSd fLOoDingGM Y mAkrtet" screw you, and preteens freely use money more. aka: more sales.

When the date is known, their account is banned until that date where any further use of the site would be legal.
If the date is not known, then the account is banned without an expiration, and should the user want to rejoin the site when they've turned 13, they can appeal the same way anyone else does, by making a temp account and creating a support request.
What's necessary after that is dependent upon each case and the information already held about that user's age and how much time has passed.

The only reason someone banned for being under 13 would never be allowed back on the site is if their true age was never known and they never appealed.

There's a reason why I always put my birth year to 1990 on every website. :) I'm 18 tho lol

The reason this wont happen is because even asking the kid for their birthday after you know that they're underage is against coppa. Coppa protects minors from having their information collected by a third party until they are above age 13. Making their ban expire on their birthday would directly go against coppa for this reason.

This isn't true. A birth date is not considered personal information by Coppa.

Any information found to be in conflict with Coppa once a user is identified as 13 can be removed, however, birthdays are not among that set of info, and temp banning based on a known age is perfectly lawful.

I think the current system of users being banned until they are of age in perfectly fine. Users that are too young are much more likely to provide lower quality services, scam or generally not follow the rules. Anyone who has owned a server knows 11 year olds can be quite annoying and obnoxious.

Eh, no support. Don’t sign up unless your 13 or older. People below that age 90% or the time just flood the market until their banned creating more work for staff. If their mature enough they will understand that the rules are there for a reason and they can wait the short amount of time until they turn 13.
Did you even read the thread? Or just look at the title and immediately disagree?

I literally say "also to the guy who's gonna say "i n-0 w@nT kIDSd fLOoDingGM Y mAkrtet" screw you, and preteens freely use money more. aka: more sales."

the suggestion has nothing to do with what you're saying like holy shit im just saying auto-unban when they hit 13 rather than make em wait

Suggestion is pretty much debunked already.

1. It's illegal to have anyone under 13 here, so that won't be lifted considering its 10x easier to ban people then to fight a law when it comes after you as a site owner. Asking Mick to break a law would be stupid too.
2. People can be unbanned if they provide proof of age when they turn 13/after they turn 13.

Justis basically described that, while not automatic, this can be done. They just appeal on a temp account and provide proof of being 13 and they're unbanned.

This suggestion isn't needed.

but they insta permaban users?

Legit why do they have to supply proof of being 13 if they are being banned based on the date they provide in the first place. Users may not even be aware that they can appeal.

point still stands

I'm sure they're told they can appeal. Plus they go based off more than that date... if they go around saying they're 11 they'll get banned. And what do you mean "Why do they have to supply support"? It's literally the law. They'd rather risk banning someone and unban them if they can prove they're of age than violate the law. They're in the right here, they're being smart.

If people lie about their actual age, it's fair to assume that they could be lying about what month/day they were born. Creating a new account, appealing and providing sufficient proof of being 13+ is reasonable.
if they were going to lie why would they lie about being 12 on December instead of February or something? This suggestion is for the honest people that put in their date..
