There's a smaller majority that boast it's a hoax and not happening.
It's a societal norm to believe climate change exist.
It's edgy to deny its existence and talk about how you don't care.

It's already evident that most people in here just have no empathy for others or this planet they live on. Yeah, I agree, it's easy to not care because there's no immediate impact. I'm definitely not making changes to my lifestyle anytime soon, for one I don't know how to change it and positively impact the planet, so instead I'd rather support senators and congressmen/congresswomen who want to fight the climate crisis and can lay out ground rules for me so that I don't become a Boomer 2.0 and screw over the next generation. We rip on boomers all the time for being so entitled because they grew up in a post-war economic miracle and had a car and a house by the age of 23 without debt. We rip on boomers for polluting this earth and making it the way it is now. We're no better than them 50 years from now.

I love this comment so much. It's just excellent self-criticism and self-analysis. First on the people of MCM, then on our generation in general (almost everyone here is gen Z, with only a few millennials). I absolutely agree that the entire nature of people on this site makes it hard to discuss anything, and I should keep that in mind when reading some of the posts. Emphasis on the "on this site" part by the way. It's weird, I'm quite sure that most people are way less edgy and toxic IRL than they are when they're on this site. Heck, I'd even go so far as to hypothesize that most folks on here are not like this even on other parts of the internet. Something about this site's negativity brings out the negativity of new-comers, even if it wouldn't have shown up otherwise.

I still like to at least try to discuss things on here, and I've had a fair few good conversations. Ironically, now I've gone completely off topic.

The only problem I have with Boomers is their retardation when it came to raising the next generation. They removed all traditional value from our culture and erased the future, by not properly raising the next generation.

Yes I know how the burden of proof works, that's what I use all the time as I'm a vocal atheist. My only issue is the refusal of any proof that may suffice, and it's just brushed off as "not important, could happen anywhere, not related to climate change", like all the examples given.

Even IF climate change wasn't happening right now, I'd still support us taking measures to combat early stages to ensure a better future for the generation. Because right now, I will not have great-great-grandkids.

Because the entire Climate Change narrative is a joke.

Opinions on climate change's existence/severity/cause aside, one thing that I find super strange is how most of the time, nobody says a word about China/India which contribute to a ridiculously high amount of pollution, the highest in the world.

You see all these politicians in certain countries being like "STOP CLIMATE CHANGE", but yet all of these countries have companies who manufacture in China and other countries with similarly high levels of pollution. Like sure, you're keeping your own country clean by banning whatever, but then the same shit will be done in China, so what difference to the planet's health will this make?

This is exactly why Trump pulled out of that global climate change thing, companies will just manufacture in China instead, completely bypassing any regulations they would've had in the USA. But without it, there is more incentive to manufacture in the USA, more jobs made, more exports, more money and literally no difference to the environment, except the pollution is relocated elsewhere that otherwise would've been in China anyway.

And then you have these Western politicians trying to tax us up the ass for "climate change". No, just no. We're going to suffer while China's economy thrives off all their manufacturing/exports.

tl;dr unless something is done about China/India, little to no noticeable progress will be made. And India/China stopping is unlikely.

Oh and also, banning plastic straws is the dumbest thing ever. I would need to find the infographics, but some HUGE number, like 90%+ of all trash in the ocean comes from a few rivers in Africa and Asia that lead to the ocean (where these things are not regulated). All these Western nations are trying to make a difference, but in reality are doing next to nothing.

Denying climate change is clearly a political move, done to kneecap any meaningful discussion on regulating large scale polluters.


This is how you can actually make a difference.
If you want a straw, take a straw. Yes you do make a small impact, but it is insignificant. Your efforts will be much more effective if you leverage scale, start a club that works directly with your local government to implement changes on a local or county wide level. Use the internet to connect with similar organizations and unify thinking across multiple areas. Use the benefits of scale to grow further. Think like the startups; Uber, Wework, Snapchat, these companies have not (and likely will not in the short term) made money. You may need to put the end goal in backseat for growth for a short period of time, but it has been shown time and time again that politicians and investors alike don't care about money, they care about growth and people. Maybe you only get to the local level, oh well. You have resume fodder and something fun to do on the weekend with your friends. But if someone succeeds, gets bigger, the network effect can take hold, and you may be able to actually make large scale change.

The climate deals, let's look at them. It's basically a tax on 'unclean' energy. Which incase you didn't know, people need energy to survive. If you look at the carbon emissions, the United States isn't even #1. The United States doesn't pollute the earth, or the oceans. The top #10 rivers which put trash such as plastic in the oceans are not even on the North/South American continent, they're all in Africa and east asia.

China and India don't care. They're worse in the U.S. in every single way when it comes to 'climate protection'. I mean, they don't even care about their own people, so why would they care about the environment. The climate deals give these countries EXEMPTION until like 2050.
