Hello!

I am interested into dedicating a ton of time in being a developer specifically for Minecraft plug-ins. I know nothing about developing and i have a question for anyone with knowledge.

Where should I learn from?

Should I get lessons and from who?

Should I learn anything before minecraft developing?

Thank you! Feel free to tag any developers

Ammar T is who you should learn from

You should also learn;
- Programming concepts
- Basic Java
Before you begin with 'plugin development'.

Ammar can teach you all of the above.

Personally I am mostly self taught, with almost 2 years experience I feel quite capable. Although I am passionate about programming and I do learn fast in general.

I learnt from Pogostick29Dev. I recommend him a lot, I've also spoken to lots of other developers, and they learn from him as well. Here's his first video in his Plugin series:
.

Good luck :)

You do realise that YT videos are run by people? I'm pretty confident 1 on 1 would be more beneficial than watching YT.

I haven't had any experience with Ammar T but neither do i think that you should recommend him.

The key to programming is learning from practice and experience and not ready-made solutions and taught by someone else. I would say that the best thing that you should do(to the OP) is that you get started by learning Java by a book, or maybe watching someone like thenewboston, who might have some(little) bad practices(and some outdated things) but still explains java in-depth.

PogoStick29 is a great youtube channel in the "now", but should only be watched when you are stuck in something in regards to using the bukkit API, which in a sense, should not be taught before getting java taught.

SgtCaze's new videos are informative and follow java conventions and makes sure you use OOP to the full potential, so, i'd really think you should watch him after pogostick29, when you are ready to go on a more advanced stage of minigames.

Though, personally, the bukkit and spigot documentations have always been there for me when i have been in need of them, so these youtubers might do good, but by practice and experience you will become a better programmer, do not depend on others.

Personally, I think online tutorials are great myself. The YouTubers you've recommended are ones I recommend myself BUT what YouTube videos don't have is explanation. Say you're stuck on a certain topic, you can't simply ask the creator the question in your head whilst watching the video leaving you baffled and making you research said topic. Suddenly a hundred more questions come into your head which isn't a bad thing, but can be really confusing. The advantage of a 1-1 tutor is that you can ask questions, you can ask questions to your heart's content and get a meaningful answer at the end of it without the confusion of technical lingo that won't be understood by beginners being thrown at them. I, being a 1-1 tutor, understand my students and am able to tailor my course to their individual needs. Sorry if the explanation is a bit jumbled, I'm quite ill at the moment :p.

Thanks for your feedback, it was quite enlightening for anyone who wants to learn Java on a very tight budget ($0 basically :p).

I did not mean it in a bad way, i do agree with all of your points, i guess i didn't word myself nicely enough. For someone who has a budget for learning Java development and programming in general, i have always recommended you, but in short i decided that maybe OP is not the type that wants to spend money on programming. Ammar T you are a great tutor, and i completely agree with the 1 on 1 question thing.

Thanks for responding to the feedback in such a nice way, and not taking me the wrong way.

Sincerely.

No, it's completely fine, I understood your intention and that you weren't simply being spiteful etc. so I simply responded accordingly :).

Woah, would you like some fries with that salt? Jesus christ, you, shotbow's developer? God, how do they deal with a person like you.
Stop changing the subject.
Shotbow isn't even a good server and their plugins are easy to recreate, ignore him, don't let him annoy you.
