Disable the Limiting of Profiles

You can prevent people from posting on your profile.

Negatives:
1. People can't see your reputation, mainly bad if you have been neg'd and are trying to hide it

2. People can't see your past usernames, and you could limit and change and scam more

In all reality, you should have nothing to hide on your profile. Please do not vote disagree just because you have thought so in the past, and if you do rate disagree then post why so a possible solution can be thought of.

As you can see, there is only one REAL positive reason to limit your profile, and the other 2 I have shown to actually be negatives.

But you can't actually view what people said about you. If someone has lots of negative reputation, I should be able to see what people are saying about them without just having to guess.

I support this as long as the permissions are granted to users which allow them to limit users from posting on their profile, as well as view the MC accounts tab, (since we require that for selling and some people don't feel comfortable having that public to those mojang lurkers).

This will allow people to hide information which should be allowed to be hidden, while disallowing them from hiding information which shouldn't if we want to encourage safe and informed business transactions; which we do.
I know a lot of you care about the user base and want to make it as hard as possible for scammers do damage, and I appreciate that.

yung bans, in response to the post you just deleted, you can't see the contents of your reputation from posts, just the points, which don't say much. The reasons behind your reputation say a lot more.

The permissions are granted as far as I know, Croc has it set like that

I was going to post this thread just before you beat me, so here's what I was going to say...

After making one suggestion, Justis suggested I create this thread (now a comment). So I shall. Users currently have the ability to limit their profiles. This in turn prevents other users from viewing any sort of information that is on their profile, which includes being able to add reputation to a user. Most users say "I want to stay private" or "People annoyingly comment on my wall", but that isn't justified. Here's reasons to disallow limiting of profiles.

Reasons:

• First off, as I said, many complain that it's annoying when people comment on your wall. Guess what? You can disable people's ability to comment on your wall! You can set it to either everybody, only people you follow, or only yourself. This is done in the Privacy settings page of MCM, and has been here for a while.
• As I also said, it prevents users from adding reputation to a user's profile. Let's say I have a bad experience with a user (the deal is done after a while, but I wish to give a negative reputation), but the user limits their profile. I thus can't post it on their wall, or give that negative reputation. This is ridiculous, and ultimately defeats the purpose of the system.
• It's somewhat sketchy sometimes. Users every now and then have multiple scam reports open on themselves, and they go limit their profile so nobody can see it. That should send red flags to people automatically. This also tends to hide things like how many reactions you're giving out, and could hide rate boosting.
• If someone wishes to do business with someone else, but they want to do a background check on them, they'll typically want to check out their profile. This would include checking for vouches on their wall, making sure their information such as Skype check out on their profile (if they add it), check positive/negative reputation messages left on them, or look at all their postings to see if they act sketchy in any of their messages. With a limited profile, you can't do any sort of background check. This ultimately makes it harder for people to do good business, and thus potentially prevents business from ever being done.
• New users tend to do this immediately, almost instantly saying "This is probably a ban evader, especially if they know how to limit their profile." as well as obviously showing sketchiness in the user.

While I'm sure there are other reasons that limiting your profile should not be allowed, these are some of the main reasons. I cannot think of a single reason you should actually be enabled to hide yourself on a website where people deal in money. Considering how hard it is to trust someone through a computer screen, further hiding yourself only makes it harder. If you plan to do business here, you shouldn't have a damn thing to hide.

I'm pretty confused as to what you are saying here, do you mean like if you wanted to leave the site permanently and have people not able to see your profile ever again, then you can just make it private?

A simple solution to that would be to have these few users submit a support request, whereupon a staff member could suspend their account indefinitely, and limit their profile for them.

The only reason I Limited my Profile is because some 'impatient' customers keep bugging me.
They know I am online and keep trying to get a hold of me, even though it's not even the due date.

Which personally, gets pretty annoying.

You can set it to where people can't see your last online already, and you can set it to where they can't post on your profile. Please edit your rating if you feel like this is a potential fix for your problem.

This doesn't exactly explain why people should be able to hide their accounts. Again, if dealing with money, you shouldn't be allowed to hide. You don't have to deal here, but if you choose to it's unfair to everyone that you can further hide yourself (considering how easy it is to pretend to be someone you're not online)...
