Before you agree or disagree with this - read the entire thread

Positives:
1. You can hide your mineman accounts from Mojang, which could be fixed using this
http://www.mc-market.org/threads/157082/
I know having permissions per tab is possible, because only you and staff can see your warnings tab.

2. People can't see your posts!!! Spooky secret post and rate booster?!?? Wrong
http://www.mc-market.org/search/member?user_id=3911

3. People can't post shit on your profile!!!! Wrong
http://www.mc-market.org/members/3570/
You can prevent people from posting on your profile.

Negatives:
1. People can't see your reputation, mainly bad if you have been neg'd and are trying to hide it

2. People can't see your past usernames, and you could limit and change and scam more
http://www.mc-market.org/search/member?user_id=3911

In all reality, you should have nothing to hide on your profile. Please do not vote disagree just because you have thought so in the past, and if you do rate disagree then post why so a possible solution can be thought of.

As you can see, there is only one REAL positive reason to limit your profile, and the other 2 I have shown to actually be negatives.

Ah yes, let's just say goodbye to user privacy! If I wanted people to view my profile then I will follow them.

But why do you not want to people to be able to see you?

"privacy" again, I think you didn't read the thread. What is there that you have to hide? There is no way to be truly "private" on this website, nothing that you should have to hide anyways

Because the rep system should be used for actual trades. You get people who are salty because you didn't give them a free snipe leave a neg rep - which is frustrating as hell.

Simply report it to a Mod and they'll deal with it and warn that user. Simple solution. Nothing that can't be easily fixed...

Simple - report the reputation. Surely nobody is going to decide to not do a deal with you because someone neg'd you for not giving them a free snipe credit. In fact, I'd have a higher chance of dealing with you if I could see the rep and see that it is in fact false instead of seeing that you have negative reputation (under your name) and making my decision solely from that.

But until they deal with it, you have that horrible red box. If I am following someone, it means that I've done a trade w/ them - that way, only people who do trades w/ me can leave a rep.[DOUBLEPOST=1481944448][/DOUBLEPOST]

Eh true, but I prefer the current system.

That shouldn't bug you that badly. If you know it'll get fixed just explain that to anybody questioning it... Plus it's pretty obvious it's fake when someone sees "didnt give me free snipe bad person" in your reputation, while 49 other people said that you were great and fair in business.

Alright so it's just a preference? I have pointed out multiple other reasons why limiting of profiles is bad, you should make a decision based on the benefits it would have in other aspects, not just because you like it how it is. I guess I can't change your mind about some things, but please reconsider.

If I interpret this correctly, you are saying one of the main reasons to disable profile limiting is that you cannot see their negative reputation otherwise? If so, I agree with at least that part. That is something that should definitely be fixed, the details of reputation should be available for anyone (possibly even guests).

As for who can give you the reputation, the limiting of that is debatable. I'm not sure what i think of it myself.

On the one hand, its a valid point that some members like to give false neg-rep. I've deleted a lot of rep that had no basis in fact, was worded in a completely ridiculous way, or was simply a form of revenge (a lot of cases were 1 person repping with a weak or bad reason, and the other neg-repping back to complain about it/get revenge)

On the other hand, if it is limited to people you follow only, you could unfollow someone that you messed up with to prevent them from neg-repping you.

One of the main reasons, yes. Also seeing username history and their past aliases is one of the other major reasons. With a limited profile you are unable to see either of these.

And I think that limiting your profile/preventing someone else from giving you reputation should not be allowed at all. Someone that was planning to exit scam could simply prevent the person he/she plans on scamming from leaving him/her that negative reputation, making them able to get away with it for longer and possibly even pulling off multiple scams.

Scam reports? One thing to always do before dealing with a user is checking if they have scam reports open. you'd have to be damn fast to scam multiple people in that time.

Anyway, that's a point of discussion for staff to consider.

While I'm sure there are other reasons that limiting your profile should not be allowed, these are some of the main reasons. I cannot think of a single reason you should actually be enabled to hide yourself on a website where people deal in money. Considering how hard it is to trust someone through a computer screen, further hiding yourself only makes it harder. If you plan to do business here, you shouldn't have a damn thing to hide.
Again, this.

I mostly buy things here, and has a buyer, its VERY important for me to be able to do some basic research into the person im buying from. If someone says something negative about you, then so be it. State your reason and let the customers themself decide if it is valid or not.
Hiding your profile also makes it easier to change name and profile picture and keep your past somehow hidden, which could hurt new members who has been warned by hearing a certain name and not realize they are now under another name.

You can still leave rep with a private profile. You just click their rating in the user model.

I disagree lmao, people want their profiles private for a reason. PRIVACY.
I limit my profile so people can't look at it and post stuff on it, and if I post private stuff only to followers, since I follow specific people, only they can see it.
Everything you just said has been mentioned in the original post.

"Oh no! I am a little baby and I don't want anyone to see my posts!!!!" Bullshit, everyone can still see your posts even with it limited.

"Post private stuff only to followers" what the fuck, everyone can see your status by clicking on your profile picture...

"can't look at it and post stuff on it" you can set it to where people can't post stuff even when it's visible.

I've been trying to keep this professional so far but what you posted is honestly stupid as fuck dude, you clearly didn't read the thread or you are just trying to be difficult.
