Dear community,

As a lot of you are sellers as well as customers i would like to get your opinion on a pricing tiers i planned on implementing on my next resource (Discord Bot)
I though about:
  • Selling a resource at a higher price to save myself and customers for the future (it would not be 20$+)
  • Selling a resource at smaller price like 5-7$ with additional renewal price every 6 months for a 30-50% of the price - This would ensure that even if the resource does not have high sales i can cover api and host services for that resource (licencing and addon marketplace or similar)
  • Selling a bot at monthly subscription rate (i think this is not a good idea as customers are not interested in going and paying for the bot every month and most of the customers are interested in having one purchase to solve their issues
  • Offering a hosted option which would be hosted either as dedicated instance or on on public instance but only accepting premium servers (subscription based)
  • I am open for any suggestions you guys have.

I know this is a basic question but i would like to get your suggestions and feedback

Personally I believe the pricing shouldn't be decided until you've seen some flow into the downloads of your discord bot. If you introduce a new bot that you have to pay for, it's going to be hard to market the bot without already having an established user-base that have and can vouch for the bot's services. Depending on what this discord bot is, you should consider if you have any competition in the same field. If there are other bots that offer what your bot does for free, then you're not in good hands from profiting off of this bot. Good luck, try looking for some marketing and get the discord bot public before switching over to paid or premium options.

Thanks for the feedback, the issue is that i would sell the bot as resource and not host it as public bot (at least it is not my main focus) in that way i don't know how i can gain new members and downloads as the bot is planned to be a premium resource, but you gave me an alternative to it and that is to create a public bot with 1 month free trial

No problem, selling the bot at one time as a resource shouldn't be too difficult compared to having monthly plans or such. As long as the bot is worth it i'm sure it would sell, especially if it comes with ownership rights. Good luck.

Thanks again for the reply, i thought so to as i didn't see much bots focusing on this primarly but if i sell 10 licences and those bots stay live for more than i year i would have to keep my licencing api/server live even if i am not getting any new sales and i wouldn't want to leave customers without the licence or without access to the bot
