Been wondering for a while, still look at google analytics and some server lists for new servers.

Was wondering if Minecraft is still even worth time anymore to develop a new server in. Even with an extensive budget. Not talking about players on long lasting servers, but if it is still possible to build up a new community still.

I've been wanting to start something for a while not for economical reasons but just because there's a lot of fun to developing in mc. It wouldn't be worth though if getting players is extremely difficult these days(even with a large budget).

100 % PvP community is dying eg: HCF, etc.

What about vanilla modes, or survival and progression servers. Or RPGs?(I think these died years upon years ago but haven't actually looked into it)

Minigames and Skyblock/Prison are boomin

With experience I think skyblock is super contested like prison use to be(a lot of players, but none changing servers).

Also I thought prison died a while ago too? Unless that is becoming really big again if people are putting in new ideas. My most popular servers were prison and they died even with thousands into ads and thousands of revenue made. It seemed clear once I saw all the other ones dying too.

The game is definitely dying. I am sure new players are coming as its impossible for them not to with microsofts advertising. But have to count in a lot of players on consoles. And with mojang only caring for monetization that will eventually die too.
I wasn't stating the fact because I have gotten older and a lot of people have, the glory days of minecraft have definitely passed. But looking at multiple statistics the playerbase is indefinitely going down. Unless its revived with a grand reveal.

I think its more of one player base dying and another one coming up. With the new updates and new kids getting the game it has swayed further from pvp and skill based to more rpg type. The glory days most of the people on this forum remember are definitely in the last chapter though. Mojang definitely neglected this type of experience when updating the game[DOUBLEPOST=1527144832][/DOUBLEPOST]and don't want to seem like a dick but consoles have had Minecraft for a while and for January 2018 Minecraft had 75 million monthly players compared to July 2017 when it was around 55 million monthly players

Minecraft, community-wise is not dying, it has shrunk through. Most people that played Minecraft in 2010-2015 are gone now, but the game still has a healthy following, and right now, is not experiencing any massive decrease or increase in popularity. Yeah sure, Minecraft's golden days are over, but it's still played and is not deserted quite yet.

The Minecraft trend has died, but not the game and its community in its entirety. You just need to know where to look when it comes to Minecraft stuff today.

Seeing Minecraft lose interest on YouTube is a bad sign of many things. For example, we have seen many extremely popular Minecraft content creators quit or not get as much interest as previous times. Content creators such as SkyDoesMinecraft or The Yogscast moving on from Minecraft means that it will not have as much exposure to the community or young children who may be interested in playing.

In conclusion, Minecraft is still a great game with a large player base and high amount of interest. But the interest has declined substantially compared to its past amount of interest.

The game will still live on for a very long time, as it is one of the most revolutionary games in the industry and will almost always remain being played by players. But it's interesting will steadily decline, and one day we will have to forget about one of the greatest accomplishments in gaming history.

If you have to search for where most of the players lie I think that means the server is a shell of what it was.
I'll still look into it but if more people like you guys are saying that a very large player base still resides my question stands is it worth investing a lot of time into creating a new server? Especially with a large budget?[DOUBLEPOST=1527149771][/DOUBLEPOST]

That is what I mean. If looking at a big statistic of all of minecrafts players you have to factor in consoles. And with microsoft only pushing micro-transactions its only a matter of time for it.

That wasn't really what I was mainly asking for in this thread though. I wasn't asking if players still stand in minecraft or if the community is completely dead was wondering if its even worth attempting to create another community

It's not dying. It only recently got passed in youtube views by fortnite (but that's to be expected). Hypixel constantly has 30k+ on wknds and other servers like Saico are booming. There are so many youtubers with constant content.

It's not dying.

Giant misconception, the game isn’t dying.

Just because a youtuber quits it doesn’t mean that the entire following of that youtuber quits... just because the game gets less advertising doesn’t mean it is dead.
Ant venom claimed the game still sells a few thousand copies a day..... however I don’t know if these claims are valid

I never said once just because a youtuber died that a big part of the scene did. I stated several times my side of the opinion was looking at general analytics. Please read clearer next time. My whole point of the thread wasn't to argue if this game is dead it was literally asking if it is still alive. And if so where at. As in is most of the playerbase on the most updated version now or are some still staying back in 1.8/1.7 that was my question. Not an input against my own just because I looked at statistics differently lol.

Before I was really trying to say the game isn't what it used to be.[DOUBLEPOST=1527799658][/DOUBLEPOST]

Minecraft never breathed; it's not human.

jk

Personally, Minecraft isn't quitting, it's just changing, we may like it or we may not.

Thank you for responses[DOUBLEPOST=1527799883][/DOUBLEPOST]
million players are still playing it, mc pvp is not dead is just getting an upgrade to a different type of pvp.

What type of pvp if I may ask? I still try to search the typical server places (mcsl, .org, pmc) and most pvp servers seem to be severely dead, or player counts are very low for the premium slots. But I am just not sure. I will search around on youtube more. I'm mainly interested in opening a survival server for fun but wouldn't want to invest a lot if getting players is too molded even with funds.

I don't know about dying but do not make a server unless you have $2000+

I’d have to disrespectfully disagree with that. You can run an successful server with even 1/4 of 2000. It’s just about spending the money you have wisely.

Depends on what you think successful means. It all really depends on what you are aiming to accomplish.
