It's not dying. It only recently got passed in youtube views by fortnite (but that's to be expected). Hypixel constantly has 30k+ on wknds and other servers like Saico are booming. There are so many youtubers with constant content.

It's not dying.
what??

Saico is dead as fuck bruv lmfao

You're telling me going from a 2.7k daily playerbase to 400-600 playerbase daily isn't dying?

(specifically talking about saico here, not MC in general)

MC is not dying and actually doing really well! Don't listen to those kids who tell you it is dying because of google searches related to Minecraft.

I’d have to disrespectfully disagree with that. You can run an successful server with even 1/4 of 2000. It’s just about spending the money you have wisely.

Exactly, I have owned multiple successful servers without putting over $600 in lol.

I don't know about dying but do not make a server unless you have $2000+
$2000 is far too high. Especially when I say "for fun" and saying to not make a server unless you have this amount of highly subjective. You might be investing a little too much into the first stages of your server.[DOUBLEPOST=1527804055][/DOUBLEPOST]

I was a part of saico for a while before the owner solely just made it a money machine or at least when their original servers were a thing and they did boom pretty high. I haven't checked them out recently though, if they are still alive it is probably due to a lot of loyal players.[DOUBLEPOST=1527804135][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'm actually investing into something new, something a little bit different, its only me myself and my budget at the moment, but i'm doing this right or not at all, i'm working a new concept of minecraft server, a NSFW/Lewd server.

If I could double rate this I would also rate it for creativity haha.

I've been with Saico since the very beginning, back since it was TLC in January 2013.
Theres absolutely no oldies left. Just new skids that most likely come in from CEdge's channel (which is obviously dead, hasn't been able to surpass 400k subs for months on end and now dropping even further) and kids with donor ranks that don't want to leave.

iPhone has always been there for the money, or at least since CedgePvP was turned into the SaicoPvP network and TLC was shut down as it wasn't worthwhile (moneywise).

I wouldn't really consider it alive. Mostly just alts and people checking in every now and then just commenting how its a "dead server."

Been wondering for a while, still look at google analytics and some server lists for new servers.

Was wondering if Minecraft is still even worth time anymore to develop a new server in. Even with an extensive budget. Not talking about players on long lasting servers, but if it is still possible to build up a new community still.

I've been wanting to start something for a while not for economical reasons but just because there's a lot of fun to developing in mc. It wouldn't be worth though if getting players is extremely difficult these days(even with a large budget).
MC is still very much alive. The MC we knew as the PvP generation with all the pvp branches of factions, HCF, Practice PvP, Pot PvP, KitPvP, etc. are dying. However minigames are taking ablaze :) Skyblock I think still has small but tight knit communities. Its become more of a leisure game then a grind and toxic fight to the death/reputation sort of mindset.

We probably know each other then you should add my discord.

that's good to hear. Yeah I kinda just want to create a small community. Work with a survival rpg server. I have a vision I want to work with.

I mean if you are serious i'd be happy to talk to you about the project and get you involved, lol.
Honestly it depends on your idea and target audience but it is a pretty interesting approach. You would also have to think about why people would go into MC for nsfw unless its a rp server.

I think trying to spend tons of money on youtubers and going as big as possible can be risky. Still, plenty of money to be made.

Yeah youtubers has always been kind of a risk. For my experience over the years unless you go with someone who was known to do videos on servers youtubers would either be a huge hit or miss. Atm from my perspective it seems server lists are less effective though.

Do people who ask this question even think about their questions before asking them? Is a game that has more active players than Fortnite dead? Are you listening to yourself?
All this stuff about dead servers just means a paradigm shift, as I keep saying. Instead of going on pay2win servers with overpriced BS ranks, people are now focusing on the Bedrock Edition or local + realms-based multiplayer. There's whole generations of players that are on Xbox, tablet or simply on a laptop/pc playing the Bedrock Edition, and Java servers are not compatible.
That's why so much of the servers are now 'dead', because players aren't interested in same old same old or re-chewed and re-painted gamemodes anymore.

Hence why hes asking whether its worth it or not to invest a considerable sum of money into creating a server and community (on what I'd assume is the regular PC edition). Not exactly whether MC dying or not

Do you read any of the comments at all or do you just post simply the moment you see something that itches you. I said this before that a lot of players are away from PC multiplayer but a lot of people are obviously saying that there is still a very large playerbase in this area. Proving me wrong that most players were on consoles.

You also didn't look correctly at my actual question.[DOUBLEPOST=1527807360][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, I am asking if it is still worth to put a ton of effort into establishing a community on PC minecraft. Typically away from PVP.

I did not read the entire comment section, no, because it was the same goddamn clickbait title again, for about the 7th time this year. Asking if it's worth it, I assume you mean financially? it's a gamble.

This post is non-biased.

Minecraft, the game, is slowly dying off. YouTubers have stopped playing it and moved on to ROBLOX to keep their channels from dying.

Minecraft, the community, is still slowly growing. Skyblock & Minigames servers are rising and Factions servers are slowly dying. PVP has been getting old to most players.

Make a unique server and load it with ads is what most people say. Yeah, that may work 10% of the time, but will it really be "unique?". You'll have to choose a semi-popular gamemode that isn't overplayed. Then, you'll have to find something to make it better? Add something a ton of servers don't have like "To expand your island, you must complete 5 vanilla achievements and place 100 blocks" or something random like these ideas.

A semi-popular gamemode and something that makes it extra special is what you'll find working.

Thanks

Somewhat. More and more of the "OGs" are quitting yes. You have to consider the fact the game is almost a decade old - any game gets boring when played for a decade. There are new people joining the community too , but think about it this way:

If this question has to be asked, then the answer is at least "somewhat" .
