Howdy everyone,

I have played Factions back in the golden days and recently felt like creating a new, non-Pay-2-Win Factions server is something I should give a try - the server likely wouldn't be profitable, but I don't mind taking losses.

To get some input I would like to ask you, the community, and fellow Factions players, for assistance. All I'm asking for is some input regarding what you dislike about modern Factions servers, what you would love to see, and what's, for you personally, the biggest turn-off when it comes to Factions servers.

I appreciate the input and your time, have a great day and stay healthy everyone!

Kind regards,
Zero

Another thing that ruined factions for me was the over the top custom enchants, and the ease of getting armour through kits and such. There should be a bigger grind to getting these.
I find almost more vanilla factions to be boring.
But custom enchantments shouldn't be so easy to get. Nor kits, ranks, etc. But not p2w at the same time.

Totally agree, at some point it just gets way too messy. I appreciate custom enchants, but they should be harder to get and/or should have a limit so players won't trigger 20 buffs while fighting.[DOUBLEPOST=1621066620][/DOUBLEPOST]
I past years playing on that old cool faction servers & I miss them, that were really good times.

I personally think, to remail into old style factions using same plugins that were only existing in that times, and no new features plugins,
Just simple.
I think the idea isn't bad, but it would have to be more modern. I totally agree that a lot of the current features are unnecessary, but I also feel like it would be too much to go back to only essentials and factions.

well, I agree that not using only essentials plugins, but in part, the experience and the difference between the new and the old factions are ruined precisely by the fact of having too many modern features that make the gameplay more complex and above all overshadow the true factional experience.

It should be more nearly vanilla and not too many features that transcend the vanilla experience.

Almost every "top" base is always the same. A giant obby tower with hundreds of walls. Inside the main base is just a bunch of spawners. There is nothing unique about bases anymore. My favourite part of factions was to break into a base and see a really nice unique design for every base you enter. Not just a few mob grinders scattered around the place made out of more obby.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you aren't the 1st guy i've seen try to revive the gamemode, Nobody really plays a factions server nowadays unless it has high competition and good payouts, but since the new minecraft tos, payouts no longer seem to be a possibility and to get good competition you either need to advertise like crazy or get a youtuber to promote your stuff, Goodluck with what you're doing hope you succeed man +1

Yeah I'm aware of the fact that it's a lot harder to establish something that is the total opposite of what currently exists, but I like the challenge! Appreciate the nice words man, thanks for your input, and enjoy your weekend. <3

I've noticed for cosmicpvp its like this.
But there isn't any pay outs compared to smaller faction servers where they have like $50-$250 paypal/btc or something payouts.

I actually considered an idea similar to this- a reversion to “OG” Factions.

As others mentioned, the problems with modern Factions:

Bases are too easy to create and make massive. Gen Buckets, trench pickaxes, etc., all add to this problem of massive bases being made with tons of defenses in no time at all.

Cannoning is too overpowered. With the advent of schematica and printer, you can find a cannon that will one shot regen bust, and take walls out in a matter of seconds. Cannons are filled with features now such as nuke, psuedonuke, slabbust, OSRB, etc.

There is an extreme sense of competition. To me, Factions has always been a fun gamemode to play with friends. Now, there are competitive teams competing for payout prizes. This results in absolutely unenjoyable gameplay for the average, casual player.

How do you resolve these? It’s something I thought through, and I propose a couple potential solutions.

The most easy remedy is to remove features such as gen buckets, trench pickaxes, etc.

Have a chunk entity limiter, which limits the amount of TNT in a chunk to 10 or 20. This will prevent all of the one-shot cannon designs and require users to go back to the roots of simple TNT cannons and hybrids.

Because OP cannons won’t be allowed, strict base guidelines will be required. Prevent slabs at the bottom of walls so sand can be stacked. Have a maximum claim size and a maximum number of walls per side of the base.

There’s a whole lot to do in order to remove the modernization of Factions today, but I think it would be fun to play.

Thanks a lot for the detailed suggestions man, I highly appreciate you taking your time to write these down!
I'll definitely implement some of them, great points!

tbh I don't think bringing back old factions is a possibility. Everyone might want it back, but let's face it things are not the same anymore and never will be. The scripting (printer, schematics, cane scripting, etc.) that is able to happen so easily now, was not so prevalent back then. Back then people made like 10-20 walls and it scaled up a bit, there wasn't a need to make 150 or 200 walls and check them 24/7 because cannoning back then is not like cannoning now. Things have advanced significantly and I think the only way to make things even somewhat playable is with strict enforcement of cannoning rules, and more rules, and more rules etc. It's not like what it used to be and it never will be. :(

I read some of the suggestions people said as well like preventing slabs at the bottom of walls etc. but whenever I played factions a big thing was the fact that you could try to advance and make a better base design to defend better etc. with the suggestion of all these new rules and limitations it takes that away..

Just keep the good memories, Factions won't ever be the same as it was years ago.

I agree that it's hard to revive the past, but I could at least provide a joyful environment for new players who want to collect the same good memories, and hey, in my opinion Factions used to be more about friendships and the community than the gamemode itself, at least that's what it was for me. Good community = Enjoyable experience.

Thank you for the input mate, stay healthy and take care!

I have played many fac servers, but all of them rush the process of base building. That is why I have stuck to playing cosmic for the past 3 years as it is very grindy while having heavy comp even without payouts. Me personally I like a lot of custom enchants, while also adding different possibilities for pvp, such as a layout of enchants work best when pvping here while a different layout when pvping at a different location.

How about the runtime of each map? Back when I played resets were rare, usually every few months.
Do y'all think it should go back to actual long-term grinding?
I think it also depends on the player base, if you have a strong and loyal player base you can get like solid 150 day maps. I just prefer long maps. I hate the servers which have like 1-week maps and such.

Would love to see this for cannoning and not this advanced 255 stacker fusion shit.

Exactly. I played on LemonCloud and it’s impossible to be a casual faction against these cannons that can literally one shot through water walls, regen walls, etc. And it’s not that it’s “advanced”— anyone can make the cannons because it’s just placing blocks where Schematica tells you to.
