Howdy everyone,

I have played Factions back in the golden days and recently felt like creating a new, non-Pay-2-Win Factions server is something I should give a try - the server likely wouldn't be profitable, but I don't mind taking losses.

To get some input I would like to ask you, the community, and fellow Factions players, for assistance. All I'm asking for is some input regarding what you dislike about modern Factions servers, what you would love to see, and what's, for you personally, the biggest turn-off when it comes to Factions servers.

Exactly. I played on LemonCloud and it’s impossible to be a casual faction against these cannons that can literally one shot through water walls, regen walls, etc. And it’s not that it’s “advanced”— anyone can make the cannons because it’s just placing blocks where Schematica tells you to.
Yeah I know but comparing it to these old cannons lol

This could be controversial to faction diehards, however, maybe rather than bringing back old factions would be to reinvent it in the direction you wish it to be.
We all know the biggest issue is cannons. This stops us from bringing back old factions. Reinventing it to remove cannons in some way, or potentially even fully removing TNT and finding some other raiding methods that are fun, and still give off the old experience... Maybe that is the true solution?

I know several hypercritical people will disagree with this, but if you take a moment to change just a few little things to bring back the old Minecraft feeling, I could truly see this working.

Interesting idea, I believe it would be possible if I find a way to make cannons obsolete, but it would have to be a very convincing method, otherwise, players who have played Factions for a long time won't enjoy it. Thank you for the input, I'll think about your suggestion, appreciate it.

I mean in any sense, if you find a way to implement something, I have been following this thread for quite some time and have roughly 15 players playing on a simple Factions server right now that I would bring over, :) All casual players.

I would love to see a simple system without all these extras that were brought in.

I remember way back when Factions did not have a world border and map resets didn't exist. Some people hated seeing the broken land outside the warzone, but I loved that aspect of even having difficulties finding a tree or food! :p

Haven't read through all these comments as there's too many but here are some ideas I had which I was going to do but I don't think I'll ever get round to them:

- No flatworlds so trapping, pvp and just the gameplay is more enjoyable
- Wither raiding in void worlds like end (encourages different types of bases ect)
- Spawners much harder to get (i.e on release players would have to go through the nether to find blaze spawners like the good days)
- Removing stuff like printer so players have to have skill to build cannons, build bases ect rather than just downloading a schem.
- Pot PvP style gameplay
- Actually grinding for stuff like potions and making only basic things available to buy in the shop
- No raid timers, shields or any of that pussy stuff which makes factions actually have to grind and have playtime to be on top
- Longer maps and no paypal rewards so that it's playing for fun, skill and bragging rights rather than just money

These are just a few off the top of my head. Overall I don't think OG factions will work anymore as players have got so lazy with gameplay, just expecting everything to be given to them, and just activating raid shields when they get off ect. I would love to be proved wrong though.
I highly agree with these points, you also mentioned some aspects I didn't even think about. Thank you for the input mate, highly appreciate you taking your time to comment!

You could honestly create a client for the server that people would have to use to connect to it. This could combat many things like Schematic abnd other such things.

The problem with that is that would just limit the player base, lots of people wouldn't even download a client from a random person unless they are well known in the community, even then many people wouldn't use it.

I think instead of making a custom client required to be used to play the server make it that it is optional with a lot of helpful additions and small buffs if you use it.

yeah i want old factions back like koonkraft, venom, mineage, scavengercraft :c

I miss these old servers, they were a big piece of my childhood. Factions were so much simpler back then, yes the gameplay was pay to win, but we didn't have gen buckets and crazy enchants as we do now. The factions we see today feel so cheaty and overpowered, while the factions seen around 2013 - 2014 were more realistic and used comparatively more vanilla features than what seen in today's faction servers.

I have played many fac servers, but all of them rush the process of base building. That is why I have stuck to playing cosmic for the past 3 years as it is very grindy while having heavy comp even without payouts. Me personally I like a lot of custom enchants, while also adding different possibilities for pvp, such as a layout of enchants work best when pvping here while a different layout when pvping at a different location.

Cosmic isn't bad, BUT cosmic will add a new custom skin, enchantment, weapon, kit or something of the sort that is GODLY, expensive, and sometimes you can only get from being p2w, BUT maybe a week later they will add something to COUNTER that godly thing which then makes that item an ex-godly item, and it keeps going on.

Cosmic has been around for so long that I feel like they are running out of ideas and with weekly lootboxes I feeel like they are really pushing it.

People trying to get into factions and start with cosmic as of 2021; it would nearly be impossible to learn everything, but for people who have been around cosmic for a long time; at least they know the basics and can always relearn and most likely can get into a good faction, have top rank (interstellar) etc.

I personally have been trying to make a faction server for years now. I have bought only 1 pre-made build for duel maps. I have bought custom plugins (which fall apart after a couple updates and or the maker of the plugin tries scumming/scamming me) And I have never bought any pre-made setups; which for the most part factions, builds, and all will be done. But that's super cheap and any good faction player can tell if it is pre-made.

Things I've run into that have made it really hard:
-Custom ideas / not overused ideas (like crate keys or same type of cosmic enchants)
-Lack of ideas
-Lack of money
-Needing developers
-Over charging developers (I mean like $80 an hour type work they want for setting world guard up)
-Developers who threaten to leak custom plugin ideas if not paid more (Use the excuse it took longer or was harder then they thought even though they had agreed NOT to leak it/resell it, or leak the idea/plugin)
-Other faction server owners trying to steal what ideas or members OR builds we have (mostly under the transcript they are interested in investing/merging)
-Builders making lower quality cheaper builds with smaller stolen/bought pre-made builds in them OR having a lot of problems (beds, which I had on my ban list for my builders, that was found in trees, hidden chests/other banned blocks such as command blocks, chest with bedrock/god apples inside/ weapons with knockback 1k, etc)
-Builders overcharging builds (estimated $1k for 2 100x100 block builds not even 50blocks tall)
-Backdoored plugins/developers (super fishy behavior, plugins, etc)
-Doxxing (Even while making a server people will try to dox you offline/ip grab)
-Staff members leaving to be staff on other servers (Basically most servers have a "you can only be staff on one server at a time" policy)
-Ex-hires trying to bot discord / delete messages / mess up our list of everything we have
-Ex-hires trying to blackmail (anything from above) to get money/more money out of us (Stupidest one was when someone tried to blackmail us under the pretense "you have been working on it so hard for 2 years but no one will play on a server that been work in progress for over 2 years")
-People from cosmic/other faction servers (mostly toxic players) wasting our time with fake interest in the server
-Some threatening has been made towards me personally for just not having a wiener between my legs, and that "women can't own faction servers, need to go back into the kitchen, need to get a real life and have kids because that's what I was made for" etc.
-People giving up to soon
-Plugin developers/staff/developers arguing what is better to the point that someone quits
-People under-estimating how long a server may take, especially when it's the owners first real server and not trying to copy-cat or use pre-made stuff[DOUBLEPOST=1624028139][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think it also depends on the player base, if you have a strong and loyal player base you can get like solid 150 day maps. I just prefer long maps. I hate the servers which have like 1-week maps and such.

What about creeper eggs?
Like, disable TNT, Custom creeper eggs that even with water protecting your obsidian/stone, you could cegg it.
BUT you can only cegg starting on the edge of someone's base / claim. Maybe some ceggs have a 5sec blow up timer, are super rare/costly, etc. It could work, and it would work against derps/traps aswell.[DOUBLEPOST=1624029131][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I know not many servers have it but what about an anti-toxic word list that you can toggle on/off.
Such words like: slut, bitch, cunt, whore, asshole, (racial stuff as well) should be blocked because not everyone wants to see this crap. But at the same time, let toxic players be toxic towards each other, and if they have a problem then they can just toggle their anti-toxic word list on. That way people wont have to turn their chats off and miss stuff said in chat JUST because some players are toxic. This would also help new, younger generations be able to log on and not have to worry their parents about being messaged toxic stuff by toxic players.

I personally am tired of the sexual-degrading words or sexual jokes that are not actually jokes.

Other than like 3 or 4 servers the only reasons some of the servers are lasting are due to massive payouts even if they have low effort into them and use the same old factions setup. Many servers act like they are introducing new features, but in reality they are all the same old things with one change. I have talked to a few server owners also and many fac servers have been running at a loss as faction teams just see these new gen servers as a quick money grab and then are not actually interested in the quality or gameplay.

That is what I'd like to change about my server. I've invested a good chunk of money into it and same with my server manager. We're looking for what the community wants vs what is possible/impossible and how we can improve the quality, gameplay, and server life span rather then releasing something for a quick buck.
