Hey, I'm curious about something and it has to do with mass DM's.

I know mass DM's is a good marketing strategy to get players since you mass DM people on discord and I know its basically hated by everyone in the community and makes you lose the respect of every server owner imaginable but is mass DM's good if you limit how many people that you DM while keeping your server respect and owner respect intact?.

I know alot of people feel differently about mass DM's, some people like it and some people don't but I'm just curious if its actually possible to use it as a marketing strategy without losing the respect of your entire server?.

Like maybe limiting mass DM's to a certain amount of people and never going beyond that?.

It will get you hated. I'll just keep it short and tell you it's not effective anymore, Discord staff are doing a good job locking down advertisers and Mass DMers.

If you want to use mass DMs, use them on a different platform like Reddit or Twitter. It's more ethical, and you're not breaking any rules.

if you mass dm I hope your server gets hacked
I'm not going for mass DM's, I just want to know people's thoughts on it since some people don't mind using it and I wouldn't mind using it if I was only keeping a server open for a few weeks since that's usually how mass DM's are done

Can you tell me what is effective?
Making social media content is the only "ethical" way that is effective. Also being creative, so finding people to collaborate with, trying new things out, you'd probably get really good results by experimenting with everything and rinsing & repeating. Its a lengthy process if you're short on money, but if you have money then my best advice is to stay away from Shoutout ads on Discord and if youre looking for YouTubers then look in YouTube and not here for example

Shoutout ads on discord, are you talking about like self-promoting your discord on servers that allow advertising?

and making social media content is good but without also going for YouTubers, you won't get very far since it's a slow process but very effective once those channels start growing

In general, mass direct messaging (DM) on Discord or any other platform is not a good marketing strategy and is generally disliked by the community. It can be seen as spammy and intrusive, and it can lead to a loss of respect from server owners and other community members.

Limiting the number of people you DM as a marketing strategy may help to some extent, but it is still likely to be seen as spammy and annoying to those who receive the messages. It is generally better to focus on more targeted and respectful marketing efforts, such as reaching out to specific individuals or communities that may be interested in your server, rather than blindly sending messages to a large number of people.

It is important to remember that respect and trust are crucial in building and maintaining a healthy and successful community. Mass DMing can quickly erode these elements, and it is often better to focus on building genuine relationships and connections with your community rather than resorting to spammy or intrusive tactics. So, it is always better to avoid mass DM's as a marketing strategy.

Good reply to my question and I honestly feel the same about mass DM's, I don't like it and I have never wanted to use it for this reason :)

Hello, I am providing mass dm service. I know that from time to time dm ads bother us all, in fact, we experience a similar one with sms ads.

But you should know that the only way to reach a client/player directly is to send a direct message. Let me explain simply, do you see a billboard advertisement on the street that attracts your attention more or is it a text message on your phone?

I think the answer is obvious. It is a marketing method that is effective in the short term and does not lose its effect in the long term, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

I just don't think people should be dming people to advertise, and billboards attract my attention more, I would ignore a DM from a bot honestly since it would be annoying to get an ad about a server I wouldn't even play or care about honestly

Honestly it's not worth mass dming at all, the reputation & backlash is just not worth it long term.
Especially if you have an actual brand that you've built up over months.

I would say mass dming is worth it for new projects, where it has nothing to lose basically (but still shady to do & prob against tos)

And honestly people who like mass DM's are people that do mass DM's or people who have used it

Ye, the reputation of your server goes down the drain and no server owners want to touch you or do business with you
