Hello folks!

So, I'm writing up this thread to see what you guys think about allowing users to promote other forums and websites.

Currently, it is not explicitly stated in our rules that the promotion of other forums and websites on MCM is disallowed. However, it has been stated publicly that we do not allow the advertising of other forums and websites by Mick.

This has resulted in a little bit of controversy about what is and what isn't against the rules. So I'm here asking for your feedback. What do you guys think about members being able to promote other forums on MCM? Should we allow it? Should we not? Why do you think what you do?

Let me know what your thoughts are.

My thoughts:

-It doesn't really matter if people advertise their sites on here or not, I don't really see the issue with it.

-Even if the site is a competitor to MCM, it's unlikely at this point that any sort of competitor could draw people away. The most serious competitor was MineMart and that came out at a time when there was a lot of hate and backlash against staff and in many ways it was the worst possible time for a competitor to come out, and even that site flopped. So I don't think there's any real danger in it. However, people could use these competitor sites to lure people into being scammed and what not, so in that case I think it could be bad.

I think that other forums should be allowed as long as they aren't *market* forums. I think that's the key distinction to make here. As rocket says, all forums are competitors, but being real, I don't think that many people are going to seriously leave MCM to go post on someone's server forum or something. So I think that should be acceptable.

-Obviously all links will have to be monitored to ensure people aren't linking inappropriate content, sites with stolen content, rats, viruses, etc.

-Don't allow people to advertise these services in places outside of where they are supposed to be. For example, I don't want threads flooding General Discussion of people advertising their shitty websites and youtubes.

-Increase the time between advertisements allowed on the Shoutbox and make it very clear that there is to be no sort of botting or anything going on. I think the time between advertisements should be increased to 10 minutes, because people will probably start trying to advertise their sites and shit more on the Shoutbox if this happened.

I own JesticWeb, so of course I'm going to say yes.

+ I say yes because as long as its not mc-markets original idea, it should be allowed.

Atleast allow Spigot, Bukkit and the minecraft forums..[DOUBLEPOST=1452557624,1452556975][/DOUBLEPOST]
Atleast allow Spigot, Bukkit and the minecraft forums..
Lemme expand on that,
Spigot, Bukkit and the Minecraft forums are all the main forums for the mc community as a whole. MC-Market is just a Market place to sell, buy, hire and offer peoples services, spigot may have some places for people to hire others for their services but you don't see an API with MC-Market in it.. or servers running off of "MC-Market", Spigot and Bukkit help Developers, Servers and players get closer as a community. so if someone has a problem on here and it has something to do with Spigot or Bukkit with the forum links being banned, how would we help them? i think that banning Spigot and Bukkit links is stupidity IMO. but it's true, servers run off of their products and most great Minecraft Java Developers use their sites as portfolios, the question that you'd be asking is, why wouldn't they use MC-Market as a portfolio because there's a place for that "Resources" well why would they? there's a API called "Spigot" and "Bukkit" of course they'd post it on the main site of the creators + most people haven't heard of MCM.. i hope i cleared that up i may edit this again to make it more clear once i fully wake up :p

~ That's why i want to allow Spigot & Bukkit links.

Blah blah blah

Spigot, to me, is MCM, but very high quality and professional, and obviously full of high profile community leaders. For whatever reason noobs don't post there nearly as much as other forums. I wish MCM was like this, but without the requirement of a high status and the scorn that comes from not having it. Linking to Spigot could be very helpful in many situations, but could also harm MCM.

Bukkit is basically dead. People who post plugins there shouldn't, and it was never a good forum in my opinion, but linking to it can cause no harm. (Although I doubt it would be very helpful..)

MinecraftForum is so chock full of noobs and 'regular', unprofessional players (kids) that it's not even funny. Selling ANYTHING there is a bad idea unless you just get wildly popular for whatever reason. It might as well be PlanetMinecraft. That said, it is a pretty central place for the Minecraft community - the problem being that it's the central place for the ENTIRE Minecraft community. I don't feel there's anything wrong with posting there, since there's a lot of information there and it's not a viable alternative to MCM.

I'd never heard of MineMart before, and I don't support the advertisement of it in any way, but many of the people here are indeed cruel - not just staff, mainly some of the people who made it big here and got snobby. You get that with EVERY forum though, this is the internet, and MineMart was not the solution in my opinion.

I believe that the only forums that should not be allowed to be advertised are minecraft/gaming forums.

Well i don't think Spigot, Bukkit and Minecraft forums are much competition to MCM.. they're the creators that make servers to what they are today.. MCM is just a market place to discuss about services and all, spigot/bukkit have a lot of useful information since most of them are developers and are experienced, blocking these sites would be very silly since MCM isn't really much competition to them. :p

I didn't copy your forums. I copied the idea, and didn't execute it poorly as did you.
Due to the controversy of Media-Mart blatently copying SocialBin (thank you King2), I am going to have to vote no on this thread. At first, I would be all for it, but now I would rather no forums be allowed than having MM steal attention from SB.
this is just like MCM vs MineMart..

MineMart didn't copy MC-M. Copied the idea, yes. yes, they did "copy" some general stuff, but if you look at why MineMart "copied", it is pretty much essentials in an MC marketplace forum. MineMart is a better MC-M, just a smaller and less active community.
in what ways is minemart better than mcm?

I think it should be allowed to advertise in your own signature, or maybe in an appropriate advertising forum, except if it is a copy of MCM.

Edit: and 100% agree with what King2 said. Croc :rekt:
