When starting a Minecraft Server what is a good starting investment?
This includes everything from programming, plugins, builds, advertising, ect.
I do not want a cutting corners approach I mean making a full on server. I am aware Hypixel invested around $50k to begin with, I think thats a bit exagerative at least for now. But what is a good starting budget, $10k? $20k? ect.

Also how long can I expect to be losing money with the server as I HIGHLY doubt I'll see any positives at the beginning of the launch. So how many months can I expect to lose? Like 3 maybe? How much money should I have saved up for the first few months? And what will the expenses likely be every month once it is setup.

Thank you for any assistance, I appreciate it.

It all depends on how you play it, as MASk0 said, if you have the experience you can make a very nice server from just a host. However, this comes with time, loyal friends and skill.

However, it's a shame that you don't know much in these things. So partner up with someone who knows what they are doing and has contacts.

Prices also may change in the next 3 years, and may drop up and down, or Minecraft make just go into the dumps. But let's be positive and not think that.

You'd probably spend a good $80 on quality configurations, just to make you professional and stand out.

Around $300 on builds, such as:
- A hub
- A spawn for the game mode
- Prison mines/Islands/Practice arenas/Koths/Outposts/Conquets
- A world, like a kitpvp map/minigame arena, or factions world and end.
- A pvp arena/warzone
- And maybe events

You'd then be looking to put around $150+ into custom and unique plugins, that make you stand out from the rest. These plugins, could be as simple as /jellylegs or as extensive as a hcf core. It's all up to you in the end.

You also want $180 on the Xenforo and theme, make sure not to use a nulled one. You can always tell, and can also face you with legal trouble. You also want to get a theme with colors that fit your server theme.

Buycraft graphics could go up to $100 for very neat and tidy pictures, for your buycraft packages to stand out.

Animated and static banners will cost you up to $150 from the best of the best, which will help on advertising which I'll come on to soon.

Server icons and logos, will be up to $100 making sure everyone knows it is your server!

Buycraft theme and plan could be around $80, $50 a month, for the enterprise plan. You'd want the theme to fit in with your Xenforo.

I highly recommend getting a system administrator to install your server(s) to make sure you don't ruin anything, and you have no bugs.

For hosting, go with a dedicated server, for a good one they go from $100. Which you may not need for the first few months, but when you start growing you'll need a big one.

Finally advertising, put all the money you have left into this, as it's one of the most important. Hopefully, you have a partner with contacts with youtubers, if not hire an advertising manager. You'll want a YouTuber with your target audience, who have 30k+ subscribers, buy about 5 livestreams on release to put you out and you'll be set.

You may also want to buy slots on server lists.

If you need any help, let me know.

Kind regards,

Fudge.

Low End

Decent builds - $50 - Some nonexclusive builds
Plugins - $50 - It highly depends on the type of gamemode. For example, you might be able to get away with spending $50 for factions, but for minigames, it can be in the hundreds
Domin - $10 - May be more if you buy a longer lease on the domain.
Hosting - $70 - To setup your server, you can use a cheap 2gb server, but for release you will want a dedi
Buycraft - $30 - Premium Plan
Website - $30 - Depends what service you use to host the forums.
Logos/Graphic Design - $50 - You will get decent art for $50, it depends who you use
Trailer - $10 - For $10 it won't be the best, but for a first map it won't be horrible
Advertising - $75 - Depends on what type of gamemode you run, but if you use youtubers, you can get a small playerbase for $75
TOTAL $375

HIGH END

Decent builds - $125 - Handful of custom builds
Plugins - $250 - Using factions as an example. you could get a custom factionsuuid fork, and a few small features
Domin - $10 - May be more if you buy a longer lease on the domain.
Hosting - $120 - You will want a large dedicated server if you are expecting a large player base.
Buycraft - $30 - Premium Plan
Website - $50 - Handful of addons to the forums
Logos/Graphic Design - $75 - High tier, premium art.
Trailer - $200 - It may seem expensive for a trailer, but from my time working on IgnisPvP, I saw that a great trailer can cost a lot
(Ignis' Trailer)
Advertising - $275 - Depends on what type of gamemode you run, but if you use youtubers, you can get a medium-large playerbase for $275
TOTAL $1135
