I built a survival server from scratch with 30+ plugins I wrote myself. Not "configured Essentials differently" — actual new game mechanics that don't exist elsewhere.
Here's what makes it different:

8 professions (Miner, Fisher, Hunter, Monster Hunter, Lumberjack, Digger, Builder, Farmer). Money and XP scale dramatically with level — level 100 earns 100× what level 1 earns.
Job Enhancers are consumable items that multiply earnings. They stack additively (2× + 2× = 4×) up to your rank cap — Adept caps at 3×, AncientGod caps at 20×.
Timed Events pit players against each other — most job actions in the time limit wins prizes.

This isn't "kill zombies for coins." Monsters near high-level hunters spawn with gear — iron, diamond, enchanted netherite depending on your level. At high levels, you encounter Uber Monsters:

3 quests daily (Quick, Standard, Challenge) generated based on YOUR job levels. Four quest types:
Key Fragments are currency earned from quests. Redeem them for crate keys (5 fragments for basic, 6,000 for Transcendent tier).
15-Tier Rank Progression
Mortal → Adept → Hero → Paragon → Demigod → Ascendant → Titan → Deity → Sovereign → Primordial → Apex → Eternal → Cosmic → TheArchitect → AncientGod
Ranks up to Primordial are purchased with in-game currency. Apex through AncientGod are available at the web store. Each rank unlocks real perks: higher enhancer caps, more quest regenerations, better periodic loot, expanded abilities. Not just chat colors.
Land Claims With Real Control
Earn claim blocks passively (60/hour while playing). Claims protect builds and offer toggles other servers don't:

Vote daily across multiple sites for money and crate keys — up to $6,000 and 6 keys per day. Milestone bonuses for streaks.

Keys through Legendary come from voting, daily quest completions, job events, Harvest Hoe enchantments, Monster Hunter rewards, and fragment redemption. There are special ways to earn Godly through Transcendent keys, and they are also available at the web store. Higher tiers have special books, enhancers, claim blocks, spawners, and exclusive gear.
Enchanting That Breaks Vanilla Rules
The Master Enchanting Table lets you stack bookshelves vertically — 8 stacks gets you to enchanting level 400+. You see the exact enchantments before applying. E.g. Sharpness XV, Protection XVI. Up to 10 enchantments per item.
The Master Anvil removes every restriction. Infinity + Mending? Yes. Silk Touch + Fortune? Yes. "Too Expensive!"? Gone. No prior work penalty.
The Master Disenchanting Table lets you pull specific enchantments off items as books while keeping the rest. Not a grindstone that wipes everything — surgical extraction.
Potions That Shouldn't Exist
Master Brewing upgrades potions with Redstone (duration) and Glowstone (power) past vanilla limits. Effects at level 64+. Potions lasting hours. Two custom effects: Fly (creative-style flight in survival) and Fortune (boosted luck for loot/drops).
A Farming Tool That Levels Up
The Harvest Hoe has its own XP and credit system. Spend credits on enchantments: AOE harvesting, haste, speed, reach, soulbound. The Spawner Finder enchantment is the only way to earn spawners. Competitive harvest events for prizes.
Storage That Holds Quintillions
Storage Blocks hold one item type, scaling to 4.6 quintillion with enhancers. They double as player shops via signs. Network them together with Storage Controllers — double-right-click to deposit all matching items from your inventory into connected storage. Wireless transmitters let you deposit remotely from anywhere on the server.
