Hi,

First of all, this is a thread which states my personal opinion. The outcome of the poll is just to give us an idea. I promise in no way that what gets voted the most will actually happen. Mick and tjrgg are sleeping so I thought I'd pick up some opinions so we can take actions fast.

As most of you know, Mojang has been locking a lot of accounts lately. Many people just lost access to their accounts and have no way to recover them.

Let me give my personal opinion on the entire account selling thing and after that I'll address some (possible) solutions. IMO there's no real solution to this.

I personally find the entire business toxic. It's not moral, most likely not legal and just a stupid thing. You steal someone's account, sell it and make your pocket money with that? Yeah, that just sounds terrible. Let's also not mention it's a very unstable business in many ways. Locking accounts, People TID'ing their accounts back, and the list just goes on and on. When I became admin back in August, I told the previous owner the same thing and I was honestly thinking "Removing the sale of accounts could actually make the forum less toxic and less of a scam paradise". Many months after that thought, I can confirm it 100%. I went through many threads, scam reports and sections and I believe removing the account section would be one of the best moves for the future of MC-Market.

Another that's worth mentioning, Scam reports. I don't see any possible solution to the countless chargebacks that will occur. So I highly doubt we could providing further support on scam reports regarding account sales.

So, what solutions do I see:
  • The most logical and most effective would be to disallow the sale of accounts on the entire forum completely. We can't do something like "remove the sections but allow sale of it". We either allow it, or not at all. Reason behind this is scam reports. Now you might say, "Allow the sale of accounts but don't provide support on scam reports." - We can't do that. If someone scams by selling accounts, we'd have a scammer on the forum, everyone would be calling him a scammer while it can't be resolved via a scam report.
  • Ignore the entire situation and continue the sale of accounts. - I really can't see this happening. I just can't...
Suggest anything as I'm completely out of ideas. I'll add anything reasonable to the list and poll.

As for MCM's future, most people are saying "RIP MCM". I think this is far from true. Sure, sale of accounts is a big thing. Sure, it's bringing a lot of traffic. However, removing it will not make the forum die. I personally have been brainstorming around MCM ever since I've joined the staff team and i've shared some of my secret ideas which could make MCM grow with some people and most of them liked them! However right now, the forum is improving, but accounts are not worth having anymore with these recent events. The amount of reports, scam reports and administration it brings along simply makes it not worth having imo.

I never really showed this much hate against the entire account selling business but I think it's getting really terrible now and I'd personally like to see accounts removed from MC-Market completely.

Vote. If you have anything to say, please don't hesitate to do so.

Keep everything on topic and clean. I'll remove any posts which are irrelevant and don't contribute to the thread. it's a serious thing and should be treated as such.

Only TID accounts. Prices will go up.

You seem to be missing the point here.

There are many people who make their money from re-selling accounts. Some people steal these accounts, but some people either got them legitimately or were sold them for a reasonable price. I've always seen the account business as a place full of danger and a worthless place to waste your money. What is so great about being able to exclaim "I have a cool minecraft username!"???
But then we have the issue that many people (although it isn't allowed by Mojang) sell their accounts for prices that are completely legit (according to experts) and that is completely fine (except to Mojang.) That is how many people on this forum get money. Saying that there shall be no more selling of accounts makes us lose a lot of members - but not as many as mojang will lock out of their accounts.
I believe that the sale of accounts should be stopped, at least on MCM, because not only is it against Mojang's Bill of Rights but it is also a huge waste of money. I understand that there are a lot of people that will be mad, but it is only going to make everything better in the long run.
Now, on the topic of scam reports - I agree with BeBosny 100%. There is really nothing MCM can do if someone is scamming for an account (or charging back after receiving an account). Either way, someone is getting scammed - and MCM staff can't retrieve the money or the account. All they can do is ban the person and prevent further scamming.

To comment on Public vs. Private sale - MCM is a public site, which means that Mojang can scroll through the accounts for sale and lock them one by one - which they are doing. I think that people should privately sell accounts if it is necessary - not on MCM. Whoever is running this black market will have to deal with Mojang, so MCM can run smoothly. There is so much more to MCM than account sales (although the majority of mcm is og sales.)

I have much more to say but I will stop my rant right here.

MCM is a public site, which means that Mojang can scroll through the accounts for sale and lock them one by one - which they are doing.

Yea, remove it.
That section is pretty much a bit toxic anyway.

The whole accounts section violates the very principles outlined in our own rules and TOS.

Our rules state that you cannot sell content you do not own.
How can you own accounts that have been stolen?
There are very few people on here they acquire their accounts legitimately.

But even then, the moment they sell them, they become illegitimate.
The mojang's TOS forbids the trading of accounts.
And MCM's TOS says you can't use our services to conduct illegal activities.

We have used this to prevent the sale of cracked/nulled/pirated licenses/accounts/services/etc.
All but minecraft accounts.
No, those we've not only allowed, but encouraged, and promoted.

We can't pick and choose when and what in our TOS we want to apply it to.
If we can do it for this, we could do it for anything.
I'm not comfortable enforcing rules based off favoritism, and this is favoritism, make no mistake.
Not of people, but of the item.

We allowed it because it was convenient, and because it's what our members wanted.
But picking and choosing is a broken system right from the start.

If we're going to allow and support the use of our services for illegal activities, we need to do it for all illegal activities.
I don't like that option.
I don't want us to become the next hack/leak-forums.
I want to be MCM.
There's only one answer, and that's disallowing the trading of accounts.

It should have been done away with a long time ago.

Accounts may have been the thing that gave MCM its start, but I certainly wouldn't want it to be the thing that gives MCM its finish too.

Don't remove it. You should make something like the scam report format I guess like OR make sure its approved first.

Make it a rule to make sure you do this in threads:
IGN: (Include *'s for no acc Lock)

You don't get it... Mojang are locking accounts.
Its about whether we still allow any selling/buying of accounts, not how to tell if is an account is locked when its advertised for sale.

Even if its advertised for sale on here, and you specify its not locked. The chances are Mojang employee's are going to try lock it.
You are just making there job easier.

Just remove it. It's only a matter of time before more accounts get locked, and keeping the entire section up will only cause further issues and end in more scam reports.
