Argolia is a survival/factions server built by a team of professional & enthusiastic people who have decided to give back to the Minecraft community and make something for the enjoyment of everyone on the server.

We're currently looking primarily for the following staff:
BUILDERS
MODERATORS
COMMUNITY MANAGERS

Other positions available.

You'll be a part of an international team of people with a wide range of experiences from both life and Minecraft. Argolia is not built for profit, and so no staff members are paid. We are a collective of people who want to give back to the community, and we hope you do too.

If you're applying, you'll need to be enthusiastic about what we're trying to create, knowledgable, and always willing to help.

You don't have to be on 24/7 (although it's awesome when you are), however we'll need to know in advance if you plan on going inactive for a long period (1-2 weeks).

Our team communicates through Slack, and has regular meetings through group Voice Chats (for which attendance is not mandatory but encouraged). If you're not able to use a microphone to talk, you'll still be able to participate through text.

About Argolia (Extended)
When Minecraft servers were first created, they were simple beasts. Running few modifications and often not online 24/7 they were built by people who loved Minecraft and loved playing Minecraft. Fast-forward to 2017 and today most of the largest servers are run by companies, with the primary intention of making money. While this is a reasonable ambition, and the funding and input from these servers has helped evolve the server community, they can often sacrifice the fun of players and community for extra income.

We don’t think that’s right.

Argolia is an attempt at making the world of servers more open, free and fun for everyone to play on. You can browse all the configs for our server on github and suggest your own changes, and most importantly Argolia is not monetized. Each school term, we run a real-life (for-profit) event series which helps sustain and keep the server competitive, however we ask nothing from our players. There is no in-game rank system for donors – instead everyone gets treated fairly and equally, and there are no ways to gamble or buy item packs using real money. Instead of spending time working on these parts of the server, we can instead work on what people actually enjoy – the game. Our staff team works with the community to help build a server environment that everyone can enjoy, and that focuses on rich and rewarding player experiences.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

This is intriguing and I would consider applying were it not for Slack. How do you plan to maintain your server? Do you own the hardware? What about developers?
Hey there!

About slack - we chose Slack as it has a great deal of integrations and tools that we find helpful, plus support that really blows my mind. Plus it's free. I've looked into tools like mattermost but nothing's grabbed my goose so far. If you've got a suggestion or thoughts I'd love to hear it!

We plan to maintain our server using funds from an IRL event series under the same name. Funds from this allow us a decent budget to pay for advertising, domain registration and anything else that we want.

We own the hardware for the server, and due to it being custom built it costs us less than it does for me to leave a light bulb running in my house (and is therefore inconsequential).

In terms of developers, I've got a fair bit of experience in coding, and learnt java early this year, however otherwise we have used (very rarely) external devs to build custom plugins. I am very confident in Linux System Administration, and can manage everything on the web & back end easily. The server runs on a VM (xenserver) running Debian.

We're in a really lucky position to be able to run the server without needing any profit, and I think it's a worthwhile cause to do something with that.

If you were to use something like Discord I definitely would've been interested. Message me with the IP once it releases, this sounds like something I would really like.
We've been on a rolling release for a while. play.argolia.com

Currently working on overhauling a few systems as well as adding a major content update. We'll begin paid advertising as needed once that's complete.

We have a discord for the community & staff meetings, but it's not as well set up for the closed group/taskforce style of work in my experience. Again what's the reason why Slack doesn't work for you? I'm not one to shun change without reason!

Edit: Discord is https://discord.gg/N39etrq

Huh. That's a shame :/ I assume it's an old version of android/iphone/windows then? Not much else Slack doesn't work on..

In any case, if you change your mind feel free to apply. We'll be sticking with slack as it's well embedded in our staff culture and suits our purpose well.

Huge vouch for HexaCubist and the rest of the team over at Argolia. I assisted Hex with the server last year, and the atmosphere is honestly to die for. It's different then what I was used to, but the way that it's run is honestly amazing. Staff team are some of the must funniest, creative, and intelligent human beings that I've met in the community.

Would most certainly recommend to anyone who doesn't have much experiance other than small server moderation looking to take their skills to the next level, or your most experienced server manager. You'd be a fit either way.

Thanks Qhuasar! As we're an international team, it can take a while (sometimes up to 24 hours) to get the opinions we need to make a decision, but we'll email you either way once the decision is made!
