Hey all,

Recently, MCM made a good step in the right direction by enforcing strict policies against resource leakers and those affiliated. However, in the eyes of many, it was a half-baked effort knowing that this site thrives on the Minecraft TOS violating sales of accounts (and the other range of TOS violating services this website facilitates). I wish to see the removal of accounts as a step towards making this marketplace a platform that actually cares about ethics.

Why would we want to ban the sale of accounts?
  1. Legitimize the marketplace. The site hypocritically enforces Rule 5.4 by striking down those who violate product ownership rights heavily, yet turns a blind eye to the sale of Minecraft Accounts which violates Mojang’s TOS. Choose one or the other. Remove 5.4 and commit to being a black market, or equally enforce your own rules across all sections of the forum. Being inconsistent and half-assed only annoys the community even more.

  2. Get rid of our most toxic and notorious members. The accounts market is saturated, comprising of crackers stealing accounts, returning ban evaders and is also the section holding the most linked scam reports often closing due to inconclusive evidence.

  3. The site no longer needs to allocate resources to develop features and moderate the section. "Opportunity cost"

  4. MC-Market will not die. By considering points 1 and 3, MCM can become an even better place for everyone and expand into even more markets. There are far more and far better opportunities out there.

Fun reads :
The site doesn’t need to be plagued by accounts anymore. This site has a bigger future for itself by legitimizing itself into a community that leads others. Honestly, I shouldn't even need to be trying to convince everyone by explaining all the benefits of removing the section. This should not have been even allowed on this site in the first place.

If we're gonna remove selling minecraft accounts, then you'll also need to remove the social media accounts section since those would also violate the ToS for the sites they're associated with.

Also while we're at it, we should probably get rid of the gift code & licences section since reselling them is usually against the ToS as well. For example, for amazon giftcards it states this in their ToS: "Gift Cards cannot be reloaded, resold, transferred for value or redeemed for cash, except to the extent required by law."

And also we should get rid of the loan / investment section entirely then since usually PayPal is used for loaning the money, which is against their ToS as well.
Also get rid of established servers, because many are not eula-compliant, currency conversion, because paypal doesn't allow convertion for cryptocurrency, videogame items/Fortnite because Fortnite and many video games don't allow accounts to be sold, etc. This is way more far-reaching than some people seem to think; proper "consistency" would destroy the community and leave the site as an inactive wasteland.

I believe the damage this decision would cause is heavily exaggerated by some people. Yes probably 100 people will leave the forum (some will become less active), user account rank sales will decrease slightly along with user activity but in my opinion benefits are well worth it!

At first glance we see handful of people who are openly against it since I believe most of them benefit from account selling (so such attitude is expected and understandable) but I strongly believe there are lot more people who would silently welcome such change including myself.

Oh god how this is backfiring!!! Just look at the numbers. This is amazing to watch, how 1 leaked convo can force staff to bring a horrible unplanned idea to light. Truth is, all of you staff have been thinking about removing OGs for a long time and I can guarantee it!

I have a reality check for you all, MCM staff are ADULTS. Whats wrong with that? This forum is called MINECRAFT Market, a market for a game populated by teens and kids! No wonder they want to remove the most childlike part of the forum, but they cant call themselves an MC-Market if they do. "#1 Trades and sales forum" shouldnt be a subtitle anymore.
If you, the staff, want to push this agenda further then go ahead and make a brand new site for all we care, that should be the real next step. Stop controlling us, and trying to convince us to believe literal bullshit just because you want to make the site seem more "professional"? Lmao. This will always be a market semi-populated by teens and if you cant handle it, then thats not our problem.

And now there are more disagrees than agrees. Im not even going to count staff for that ratio over the huge bias. Remember, not all of us have "idiot" painted on our foreheads

Keeping consistency in mind, This would remove the following sections of the forum: (please correct me if I made a mistake anywhere down the line or forgot to include a forum section.)
  1. Established Servers (reasons mentioned above)
  2. Selling plug-ins (against EULA)
  3. Social media accounts (against their respectful ToS)
  4. Video game items (against Epic Games' EULA)
  5. Gift Codes & Licenses (against their respectful ToS)
  6. Other Products (specifically discord self bots, against Discord's ToS)
  7. Hosting (as previously mentioned, non registered companies)
  8. Currency conversion (as previously mentioned, PayPal is used for these kind of services, which is against PayPal's ToS)

I am by no means a legal expert, but this is what I was able to find with minimal google-fu. I'm sure someone who's actually knowledgeable in the subject can point this out better.

Removing the account section / other neutral areas of this site could cause it too die. It removes the demand.

As Choo and Doge stated. This is a Minecraft forum, for Minecraft accounts.

To leave it’s branding/home is a dangerous step that could lead to it dying. Some would argue that the site would die without it.

Overlooking the past year, tons of things people asked for have been implemented or verified that it will be implemented. Reputation system, dispute system, rules/warnings expiring, the list goes on.

Considering both sides, I feel that while MCM shouldn’t endorse it, they should not be removed. Moving away from Minecraft and to a more general forum could be a start of this.

Louwtjie Ivain Cal I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

This is a Minecraft forum, for Minecraft accounts.
It seems many users, including yourself, have the perception that "Minecraft" solely means account sales, and nothing else.

I'm unsure why this is, considering there are so many more sections oriented to Minecraft; we can still operate as a Minecraft forum if account sales are removed.

Let's quote Verringer here from back in 2014:
MC-Market is aimed to bring a safe-environment for you to post things you're selling (domains, servers, plugins, etc) and find people to do jobs for you.

The primary focus wasn't account selling, nor was it even worth mentioning it seems. To me, it was more tacked on, as admittedly, it does have a large community and following.

Account selling may not have been the primary focus, but it is a massive part of the "MC" aspect of things. Looking at the past 3 page of new posts on MCM, you'll see that there's 7 account selling/appraising threads on the first and second, and 6 on the third. That can be averaged to about 20-25% of the new posts (20/90). Adding on the users that would potentially quit entirely and stop posting in other sections, we can round this up to a clean 25%. You'd be losing a quarter of your site activity to gain a negligable amount of reputation.

I honestly think the website could move in a bright direction if the selling of accounts was to be banned, yes the site would take a hit but I believe it would give opportunity's for other sections to grow

There's no reason other sections can't grow currently.

Then what is the demand here Minecraft related?

Let’s break down that.
Builds, Plugins, Account, Staff, Graphics.

Plugins, = spigot. Yes, we have plugins here, but the demand is in spigot.
Graphics, yes graphic designers are awesome here. But there’s TONS of options.
Staff, true. The site is a available option, same for builds.

Except you don’t have build teams solely here. If anything you could argue the customers come due to word of mouth.

It’s cutting a guaranteed user base and community. No matter how unethical.
