Howdy everyone,

I have played Factions back in the golden days and recently felt like creating a new, non-Pay-2-Win Factions server is something I should give a try - the server likely wouldn't be profitable, but I don't mind taking losses.

To get some input I would like to ask you, the community, and fellow Factions players, for assistance. All I'm asking for is some input regarding what you dislike about modern Factions servers, what you would love to see, and what's, for you personally, the biggest turn-off when it comes to Factions servers.

I appreciate the input and your time, have a great day and stay healthy everyone!

Kind regards,

Pay2Win was always a part of factions.
Will end soon though if Mojang really pulls through with enforcing the EULA. Recent signs showed that they'll blacklist servers again which hasn't really happened since 2015.

I think instead of making a custom client required to be used to play the server make it that it is optional with a lot of helpful additions and small buffs if you use it.
Oh yeah, 100%. Just like how cosmic servers having cosmic client is like a MUST or else you'd be missing out on tons of stuff.

The thing is, it's still going to be really hard to reinforce no using schematics unless you want to screenshared every player. I'm not even sure if you'll be able to find the audience without having a few modern toxic kids coming on and ruining everything. But I'm highly interested in this project and there are some great ideas on here.

Personally, I don't think schematics should be too much of a problem as I think no matter what you do it will always be a part of the community in building cannons. I think servers should just not do printer, as it ruins the fun of manually building a cannon and cuts down in time which should not be done.

Not sure if many servers do this but, I think events such as raid events every 2-3 days with a new base structure every time with different defenses, will increase the need for a cannoneer at all times and reduce reliance on using old schemes.

Factions is never going to be like it was. Times have changed most server owners just want to make a quick buck and its all P2W.

This sounds like a really well-intentioned and interesting project that will capture a great niche of players.

Interested to see where this goes! Would be interested in helping out in any way possible when the opportunities arise.

I miss the days where you needed to actually grind.

For example, let’s take Desteria in 2016-2018 when I played, I’ve played Desteria a lot more, but these are the years I miss most.

I miss having to grind so much, such as making a base, where you have to lay out trays, and manually generate all the walls, and manually place your obsidian box, like we used to do. I also miss the grind it took to get your starter money, where you had to mine, or do a lot of things just to get a bit of money, the small hand placed farms, leading to a pig spawner, leading to a mob grinder, all of that. Nowadays you log on, you run/fly to a corner, you claim it, then you open a bunch of crates, or take the roster rewards and start your base, while 8 other members are creating a 1000x200 sugarcane farm with ease, ya know. It’s not fun where you click 2 buttons and all you have to do is hold the letter W. Factions has changed a lot, some for the better, some for the worse. I miss the grind it used to take to make a base, I used to dig underground and make a nice looking base, with my pig spawners, and other stuff.

Cannoning, that’s another thing that has changed majorly, we used to take half a stack of redstone, some slabs, and tnt and we’d manually place, and click our button. Now we have a modification that does it all for us, button bots exist, sand bots exist, tnt fill exists, it’s insane, the changes are insane. Sure, the cannons are cool, and it’s awesome seeing something that can blow through 5 walls in under 5 seconds, but that ruins the aspect of factions, you’re supposed to grind your way to the top, not sit there and let discord bots do it for you.

Another big one, mentioned in earlier comments, is the enchanting. I remember enchanting with 10 XP to get protection 1 then combine it over and over, now all these kits with Protection 5 and custom enchants, just making it a lot less fun.

Throughout my time playing Factions I have seen everyone, myself included change from the underground hidden bunker, to the above ground huge fortified colony, which sure this can be fun for some, but some people want to grind, we have removed the aspect of grinding from Factions, placing trays, placing obsidian, placing sand, grinding mobs, to placing 120 buckets, opening keys and crates, placing spawners, and pushing a few keyboard buttons, how do people find this fun? I don’t get it. I seriously wish we could go back to the old days, and grind a bit, I know we all miss it, we just don’t see it.[DOUBLEPOST=1624865425][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, the over toxicity is annoying, I miss everyone getting alone and just having a fun time. Now the goal is to bring everyone else down, and seriously some people get hurt by this game, a buddy of mine quit gaming completely because he got doxxed and was constantly getting ddosed

Honestly, toxicity is one of the hardest things I find to moderate. I find it extremely annoying and, the players are the reason why Factions has been ruined.

To be honest, toxicity can be avoided by targeting the right groups when advertising while also having automatic chat moderation, for example blocking harder swear words and having moderators online to check for violations. It definitely takes time to establish a non-toxic environment.

I honestly stopped playing because the grinds just didn't feel like much before you got a prot 4 set and you were pretty well off.

Another thing was massive factions and playing with just a group was hard to get much of anywhere I honestly preferred smaller servers but there wasn't much to do.
