The author of the suggestion thread I mentioned this on trashed his thread to get rid of all of the disagree ratings he acquired.

To restate my previous points, it's being used shamelessly to catfish and gain favor from hormonal teenage boys.
Additionally, the unfortunate females of our forum are harassed with vulgar requests.
Someone's gender should have no relevancy within a marketplace context.

We're all human and members of this community. That's all that should be needed to be known to make fair and respectable comments/transactions with one another.

My decision of whether or not to hire someone for a task has nothing to do with what their sex chromosome is. as Theo J said, just because there are some thirsty kids out there thinking buying a $5 logo will buy them an e-date, it doesn't mean that the entire forum should be unable to display what their gender is... additionally, this'd cause even more issues in terms of discrimination as people that were previously just looking at the profile would now just be assuming based on profile picture and how they perceive someone's behavior. This suggestion is ridiculous, I shouldn't be unable to display my gender on my profile just because some select few catfish. Instead of banning this outright, why not only enforce the rules on those who break it?

Same logic applies to the following:

Well this other guy with an anime profile picture scammed, so let's ban all anime pfp's because of it!

1. This won't stop 'catfishing'.
2. If you fall for 'catfishing' then you are stupid.
3. You already have the ability to hide it.

I mean I don't really find this thread funny. If someone thinks it's okay to buy something from someone just to get with them that's really disgusting. Doing anything with just a persons gender in mind is a little disgusting as well.

aight so

It's bad to be an immature 13-year-old trying to sell your Fortnite account on here so you can get money for more robux, and being weird around all the "females". Even worse is the fully grown men catfishing these children for money. That can be borderline pedophilia, depending on how far the catfish takes it. We don't need gender here. We don't need provocative pfp's, we don't need catfishes or e-whoring or underage kids or any of that, if you think otherwise then post something that actually supports your answer other than just "no me want moneez let be gril".

By the way, quick idea here, maybe make enabling gender available at a certain rep level? That way, new accounts for catfishing/e-whoring don't get to, while actual dedicated users that are trying to deal legitimately can show their gender if necessary for whatever reason.

Its marketing advantage to catfish with gender. Catfishing is only harmful if used in a deceptive manner for relationship purposes.

There are plenty of advertisements that use the generically hot female supermodel to sell products toward men that the product claims to generally enhance their experience with women.

The same happens for the reverse.
except no

cat·fish
/ˈkatˌfiSH/
verb
gerund or present participle: catfishing2.

  1. INFORMAL•US
lure (someone) into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.

The advertising and marketing would not lure them into a relationship. The person would just see someone physically attractive and say "Hey, I wanna be like them/have them" and buy the product. This is different, because you are actually physically having a conversation with the person that could potentially lead to a relationship. If you're pretending to be attracted to someone for money, that's scummy and probably against the law in more than one way.

1. This won't stop 'catfishing'.
2. If you fall for 'catfishing' then you are stupid.
3. You already have the ability to hide it.
1. It will hinder it, at least, but I agree.
2. Half the people on here are 13-year-olds that aren't stupid, just immature.
3. That doesn't help. Like Justis said, he wants the site to enforce it.

There's only two genders! | Change my Mind
i mean you could count transsexuals if you really wanted to

Can you make the age limit higher too? Something like 14-15?
There are 11-year-olds more mature than the adults on this website. I know some personally. Age limit only really helps in large increments, like limiting 10 and up, or 18 and up, or 21 and up.

Totally agree, it's downright annoying when people abuse it. It makes people question everyone (even the real ones) plus you'll get vulgar messages.

(This doesn't even include the bad ones.) (Yes, I made fun of it, but it's downright annoying to be honest.)

Your name is literally MythicGirl, I highly doubt removing the gender from being written on your profile would stop people from figuring out your gender..

I don't mess with my profile much, so I didn't even notice, my bad.

Tbh, if staff see that people lie about their gender, it should be a suspension for impersonation or something (Idk if that is already a thing.)
And if people harass females, or anyone in that manner, they should be suspended.
Don't put up with petty shit, just shut it down right then and there.
In today's age you wouldn't be able to do that because of all the gender crap that's happening.. if you say you're a girl no one can do anything about it.. so stupid.

She isn't necessarily saying it's just for her, it could save others from having the issue.

People have different meanings.
At the end of the day, what's going to change whether or not "Male" or "Female" is being displayed somewhere?

This is just nonsense that should never have been addressed, this creates a "problem" that was never there in the first place.

Some little text shown on your profile will not stop catfishing, it will not stop harassment, it won't really do anything at all.
