Hi!

I am 18 years old and have been making server setups since I've been 15. This year I have had a job and earned some money, which I intend to "invest" into making a Minecraft server!

Now.. I do not know a lot about both hosting and website management and that sort of thing, so therefore if anyone in this forum has any knowledge or tips about how and "where" I should host and how to set up a website that would help a lot!

I am also looking for builders or previously made builds, for a yet to be decided server (but I want to make some form of factions i believe..)!

My budget would be around $250, and then see how it works and if I get any players! :)

PS: I have been quite absent from Minecraft and would also enjoy tips as to what people like to play these days, or any tips for that matter!

So for hosting you need to choose which hosting panel you want to use the main ones are Multicraft and pterodactyl. Pterodactyl demo: https://demo.pterodactyl.io/auth/login Multicraft demo: https://demo.multicraft.org/site/page?view=home the one you prefer helps you guide to a hosting provider . Now you need to choose a location if you are thinking most of your player base is going to be Europe you need to choose a European location and the same for USA ect you can always change the country later. Now you need to choose a hosting provider for the country you chose and panel. My recommendation for the pterodactyl panel is Heavynode they have European,USA,Asia,AUS (I'm currently using them) and they have good support. For the multicraft panel pebblehost is good. If you want to choose another one make sure it has good cpus, lots of storage and msql databases. Now for purchasing you want to purchase a 1-3 GB of ram plan for developing because you don't need lots of ram in developing. For web hosting securesrv is pretty good as well as sparkedhost. For spigot forks you want either Paper (1.12+) or Tacospigot (1.8.8). For hosting most of the times until you get 10+ players get budget plans. Hope I helped

The current servers that are gaining members day by day, are the Practice PvP servers and HCF servers. If you’d like, I am willing to provide my setup for Practice PvP to you and help you start developing the HCF side of the server. It may take time to gather members to the server, but more people enjoy playing HCF and practice than other game modes (in my opinion, others may have a different view).

If you were to go for a different route for more classics game modes i.e skyblock, skywars, factions, survival, etc. you may find a few people who play these game modes but it would definitely differ from the players who play the game modes I’ve suggested.

Let me know, I’m always available if you’d like to talk about this sort of stuff. Shoot me a pm on-site for my discord.

I'll take input on the website aspect.

Usually, I would recommend a good forum software like XenForo, though since you have a low budget you'd have little to spare for marketing, server hosting etc after paying for a license, developer (or premium theme) to theme it etc. So I would recommend using WordPress and installing the bbPress plugin (its a free forum software for WordPress), theming is pretty easy as there are free themes, though if you need a custom theme, you could get it pretty cheap (I do offer WordPress theming & customisation) and its super easy to edit your website content afterwards too, so its a big win for a low budget.

As for the website host, I would personally recommend Bitdash, I use the company myself to host my own and my client's websites (minecraftdigital.com), you could probably negotiate a discount with them too.

Thanks! I believe I will go with Pterodactyl (and Heavynode i guess)! I believe I will finish the server and open it, then afterwards set up the website as that seems like the best and cheapest way to do it.

ALSO: Does anyone know what way is the best to advertise? I am not looking for a huuge playerbase but how do I go forth when wanting a steady yet growing playerbase? :)

All these people are telling you that you need a forum. That is absolutely not true, if you're budget isn't high and you don't have a large playerbase you shouldn't invest in a forum. On every server I have recently been on forum, including large ones, there is practically no forum activity. What you should do is create a very simple landing page with a logo, ip address and a discord.

Discord is currently the way to go, it's very organised, allows you to chat quickly and efficiently and lets you notify everyone, anyone online or specific groups and them instantly getting the notification. It's also a great place to talk and have voicechat. Hosting giveaways and moderation is also very easy because of bots.

So don't spend over $100 for a xenforo license and another $100 on getting it designed, instead make a landing page yourself or with some help as its not too difficult (and if you really cant figure it out, pay someone) and create a discord.

edit: Also if someone charges you a lot of money for a landing page with lots of useless features don't deal with them. It should be very cheap and you can google online how to make a basic landing page.

So many servers are coming out every week. Big servers reset. Your best bet is to sell to those servers things like plugins, configs, builds.

Best of luck with your endeavors! If you need help feel free to DM me[DOUBLEPOST=1564867941][/DOUBLEPOST]

Forums are very useless until you grow a larger community and require the possibilities of a website. Stick with a tebex store and discord. There are some very good discord bots to help with management and staffing.
