Runesmith
Runesmith lets players engrave custom runes onto their weapons, tools, and armor at a runesmith's table. Every rune has its own upgrade path with rising success chance and rising cost, so gear becomes a long-term goal instead of a one-click enchant.

How it works
Hold a weapon, tool, or piece of armor and run /runesmith. The table opens on the item in your hand and shows one icon per rune that fits it, each with its current tier, next tier, success chance, and cost. Click a rune to open a confirmation screen, then confirm to spend the cost and roll. Succeed and the rune goes up a tier. Fail and you lose the cost. The item never leaves your inventory, so nothing can be lost or duplicated.



Ten runes, ten tiers each

• Weapon runes - Edge (flat attack damage), Fury (attack speed), Siphon (lifesteal), Scorch (chance to ignite the target).
• Armor runes - Vigor (extra max health), Ward (extra armor), Anchor (knockback resistance).
• Boot runes - Gale (movement speed), Feather (fall damage reduction).
• Tool rune - Harvest (chance for bonus experience on block break).

Each rune scales across up to ten tiers, with its own magnitude and success chance per tier, and can be retuned or disabled on its own in config.yml.



Features

• Click-driven table GUI that opens on the item in your hand, with a confirmation screen guarding every charged attempt.
• Ten runes across weapons, armor, boots, and tools, each with its own ten-tier upgrade path.
• Three cost types: experience levels, Vault money, and a material cost (a vanilla item or the plugin's own Runic Dust). Mix and match, or turn any off.
• Runes stored on the item's own data, so a restart, a reload, or trading the item never loses a rune.
• Attribute runes apply as native item attribute modifiers and show right on the equipped gear; effect runes read live the moment they matter.
• Optional downgrade-on-failure mode and optional refund-on-failure, both off by default.
• Full config control over every rune's display name, icon, tiers, magnitude curve, success curve, and which gear class it fits.
• Config auto-migration keeps your settings when the plugin updates.

Commands

• /runesmith - open the table on the item in your hand.
• /runesmith help - show help.
• /runesmith info - list the runes on your held item.
• /runesmith list - show every rune, what it does, and where it fits.
• /runesmith clear - strip all runes from your held item (asks to confirm).
• /runesmith reload - reload the config and messages live.
• /runesmith give <player> <rune> <tier> - engrave a rune onto a player's held item.
• /runesmith dust <player> [amount] - hand out Runic Dust.

Permissions

• runesmith.use - open the table, engrave, info, list, clear. Default: everyone.
• runesmith.admin - reload, give, dust. Default: operators.

Requirements

• Minecraft 1.21 to 26.1.2.
• Paper, Spigot, or Bukkit.
• Java 21.
• Vault is optional, only needed if you turn on the money cost.

Installation

1. Drop Runesmith-1.0.0.jar into your plugins folder.
2. Start the server once to generate config.yml and messages.yml.
3. Hold gear and run /runesmith to open the table.
